Washington Nationals at New York Yankees Betting Pick

Two teams that appear to be missing out on the 2023 postseason will start a three-game series in the Bronx on Tuesday.

The Washington Nationals are at the New York Yankees. The Nationals are 57-68 on the season, which is last place in the National League East. Heading into Monday, the Nationals were 24 games back of first place in the division.

For the Yankees, things have not been much better. The Yankees are 60-64 on the season, dead last in the American League East. New York is 17 games out of first place.

The Yankees are the favorites in this game. New York is listed at -192, while Washington is at +154. The total for the game on Tuesday is listed at nine runs.

Tuesday’s Pitching Matchup

Josiah Gray will get the start for the Washington Nationals. Gray, is a New York native, making his 24th start of the season. He is 7-10 on the season, with a 3.96 earned run average. In his last start on August 15th, Gray went just three innings and allowed five hits and five runs in a loss to the Boston Red Sox.

For the Yankees, they will throw lefthanded veteran Carlos Rodon in this one. Rodon has struggled this season, with a 1-4 record and a 7.33 earned run average.

Rodon has pitched 27 innings so far this season and walked 18 batters. His most recent start was August 6th, as he went to the IL after that game with a hamstring issue. In that start, he was rocked for five runs over 2.2 innings against the Astros.

Yankees Struggles on Offense Mighty

The New York Yankees have been unbelievably poor on offense. The Yankees have dropped eight straight games.

Over that time, New York has scored just a total of 20 runs. That’s taking into account that 12 of those runs came over a two-game span. New York has dropped to 23rd in all of baseball in runs scored and are the second-worst hitting team in all of Major League Baseball, with a .230 batting average.

Anthony Rizzo has been poor for the Yankees this season, with a .244 batting average, while young star Anthony Volpe has struggled as well, at .217. Aaron Judge has returned for the Yankees and has four home runs over his last 11 games, but that has not been enough.

Washington Giving Youngsters a Chance

Lane Thomas has been impressive for the Washington Nationals this season. In the Sunday Night Baseball win over the Phillies, Thomas came away with two hits, while Joey Meneses picked up three.

The Nationals are giving young guys a chance as the season comes to a close over the next month or so. CJ Abrams, just 22, is leading off and recently homered in the series against the Phillies.

Washington has been better offensively, as they have moved to third with 8.9 hits per game. Getting the guys in to score has been the issue, at 4.4 runs per game.

The Nationals are one of the worst home run hitting teams in all of baseball, at just 113 on the season. The pitching has been the biggest issue for Washington. The Nationals are allowing more than five runs per game.

Yankees Top Nationals in Opener

Look for the New York Yankees to break through and win this game. Carlos Rodon and Josiah Gray is a pretty good pitching matchup.

The total for the game, at 9, seems too high, so betting the under would be our first bet of the day.

Our other bet would be the Yankees, sneaking by with the run line at -1.5 (+105). The final score prediction of 5-3 Yankees over the Nationals gets both done. Best of luck, and enjoy the game!
