2023 Tour Championship Betting Preview

The final event of the 2023 PGA Tour season will take place this weekend. The fine course of East Lake Golf Club will be the home of the event, as it has been since 2004.

The top 30 players will take the course, with a total prize purse of $75M. The winner of this event will take home $18M, with second place coming away with $6.5M. Third, fourth, and fifth take away $5M, $4M, and $3M, respectively. All 30 places that finish the weekend will be part of the payouts for the event.

East Lake is a Par 70, 7,346-yard course just outside of Atlanta. Keep in mind the new format gives players an opportunity to start “ahead of the field,” which is Scottie Scheffler with his -10.

That will play a large part in how the weekend will go and needs to be considered when betting on the event. Let’s take a look at our 2023 Tour Championship Betting Preview.

Scottie Scheffler +140

Scottie will start the event in the lead by two strokes over Viktor Hovland. Mr. Consistent has continued to play great golf. He went through the Open and FedEx outside of the Top 20, but since May, he has been Top 5 or better in eight of 10 events.

Scottie shot a third-round 64 and was the leader heading into Sunday, but Hovland just took over the event and passed up Scheffler’s 66.

Rory Mcllroy +330

Rory did not play his best golf in Chicago. He did not put it the way he wanted to and fell a few strokes because of it. But his final round 66 has him starting at -7 for the event and fully capable of winning it all.

Rory will work on his putting game, and if he keeps his scrambling abilities, East Lake is going to have a tough time not seeing him repeat as champion. Rory is listed at +330 to win it all.

Viktor Hovland +500

What an incredible Sunday it was for Hovland. After 69, 68, and 65, he took over the show and shot a 61 to win by two strokes at the BMW. Hovland will not get a chance to take down the big prize, as he starts in second place at -8.

Hovland made all 23 cuts this season and finished in the Top 10, 10 times, with four wins. This is a guy that will be hard to ignore. He has not finished worse than 29th since May.

Jon Rahm +800

It was not a banner weekend for Rahm. It has not been great the past two weeks, with a 37th and 31st place finish. Rahm still is a threat and will start the event at -6, just four off the lead.

Rahm lost at the BMW due to his Friday and Saturday. He went +3 on Friday and +1 on Saturday to take him out of contention. He would like to regain the magic he had at the Open, which saw him finish in second place.

Patrick Cantlay +1600

Cantlay made 16 of 18 cuts this season and 7 Top 10 finishes. He will start the event six strokes back, at -4. Cantlay struggled on Saturday at Olympia Fields, shooting a 71 and putting him out of contention to win it all.

He did fire a 67 on Sunday, which was his best of the weekend to rally to a 15th-place finish. Before that, he was runner-up at the FedEx and earlier came away with fourth at the Travelers.

Max Homa +2800

Homa gets overlooked with the talent in the game of golf, but Homa is playing some really solid golf. He has back-to-back Top 6 finishes. He now has four in a row inside the Top 12.

Homa originally had the course record after his 62 on Friday, which was beaten two days later by Hovland with his 61. Homa will be consistently around the top of the leaderboard at East Lake.

Others in Consideration

  • Xander Schauffele +3000: Starts at -3.
  • Matt Fitzpatrick +4000: Begins the round at -4.
  • Lucas Glover +4000: Is 5th, at -5 to start Thursday.
  • Wyndham Clark +4500: Will begin the weekend at -4.
  • Tommy Fleetwood +4500: Just outside the Top 10, and will start -3.
  • Brian Harman +4500: Consistently playing good golf. Will start at -4.

Enjoy the final event and best of luck with all your golf bets!
