Robert Mizrachi Adds to Family Legacy

The Mizrachi Family is well-known among the live poker community, and that has been especially true at the World Series of Poker. Michael Mizrachi has already won five career gold bracelets, and now his brother Robert has joined him with the same amount.

There are many exciting tournaments at the World Series of Poker, and the Dealer’s Choice events always stand out. The $10,000 Dealer’s Choice Championship was Event #13 on the schedule, and it actually went a day longer than expected.

Three players wouldn’t bow out during Day 3 of this event, and that forced the top players to go into an extra day. Robert Mizrachi consistently had a solid lead in this event, and he rode that lead all the way to the title.

By winning his fifth gold bracelet, Robert Mizrachi was able to take home over $333,000. Even though getting to five bracelets would make him a legend in the sport, he has always been in the shadow of brother Michael.

Plenty of Prove

Robert Mizrachi didn’t need any additional motivation to have success at the World Series of Poker, as joining his brother with a fifth gold bracelet was enough. He ended up getting some extra fuel though, and it came from everyone else doubting his poker ability.

During the flight to Las Vegas, Mizrachi listened to the WSOP $25k Fantasy Draft, and he was basically an afterthought in that draft. Eventually Team The Dinkers selected Robert for $1, which is the minimum that a player can be purchased for.

For some reason, Robert just hasn’t been viewed as a top competitor like his brother, but winning four gold bracelets is not easy to do. He has always enjoyed playing in Dealer’s Choice events, and he won the same event exactly 10 years ago.

There were just 141 players in this field, but the top three finishers were able to win at least $100,000. This event used many different forms of poker to determine a winner, but pot limit poker has been viewed as a strength for Mizrachi.

Not Much Drama

Despite this tournament heading to an additional day, there wasn’t really much drama at the final table. Five American players were inside of the top six, and they were joined by Ryutaro Suzuki. Suzuki finished with $144,431 by taking home third place in this event, but he was never really in the mix.

Mizrachi entered the final day with a huge chip lead, and he had a 2:1 chip lead when it came time to battle with Michael Martinelli. Since Mizrachi entered heads-up play with a big chip lead, he was able to control the action regardless of the game that was played.

The final hand was Pot Limit 2-7 Triple Draw, and he put pressure on Martinelli to make a bad decision in that hand. Mizrachi had also extended his chip lead by winning hands of Badeucey and Pot-Limit Omaha at the final table.
