North Carolina is not known as a massive casino gaming market, but the Catawba Nation is trying to change that. That federally recognized Native American tribe is breaking ground on a new casino property on June 7th, and this is coming much later than most expected.
The Two Kings Casino will soon break ground in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, a town that is 35 miles west of Charlotte. Not only is this going to be a brand new casino property, but there will be other amenities and attractions as well.
There is currently a temporary casino in Kings Mountain, and that is going to remain open until the new property opens in early 2026. This is a $700 million project that is expected to add over 2,000 jobs to the local community.
This project is going to be built in two distinct phases, and it won’t be until phase 2 is complete that the entire resort will be complete. Since online casino gaming is not yet legal in North Carolina, residents of the state are used to doing some traveling in order to place their bets.
The Catawba Nation is trying to build something special in the state, and this is definitely going to be a good start.
Casino Will Be Large
Residents of Kings Mountain aren’t going to notice a massive development during phase one as that will be the portion of the project that focuses on the casino. This will be a single-story casino project, and there will be a limited number of slots and table games built.
A small 40-seat restaurant will also be a part of Phase One, and there will be a sportsbook with some self-serve kiosks. While that will create a more permanent solution for those that want to play at the casino, bigger developments are coming at a later date.
The second phase of this project is when those in the community will start to notice the new development in a big way. A 400-room hotel is going to be built on the property, and there will also be many more casino games added.
Eventually, additional restaurants are going to be added, and that will create a premier destination for those in that part of the state. It is as that time that the King’s Casino will hire an additional 2,000 workers to operate the property.
Work Had to Be Done
This project was not able to get started until the Catawba Nation was able to reach a settlement with Sky Boat Gaming. That is what caused the delay in this process getting rolling, but there were other deals that needed to be reached as well.
The battle stemmed from who owned the land where the new casino property was slated to be built. Leaders of the Catawba Nation believed that it was being taken advantage of by Sky Boat Gaming, and they requested that a deal be reached.
This native american tribe has made it clear that they plan to honor their culture with this new project.
