Subway Series: New York Yankees vs. New York Mets

The New York Yankees and the New York Mets will continue their Subway Series at Yankee Stadium on Friday night. This is the first game after the All-Star Break for both teams, and the teams will play a three game series. The Yankees took two out of three from the Mets earlier this season.

The Yankees and Mets are going in two very different directions as a franchise. The Yankees are in second place in the American League East, but are very secure in their playoff hopes this season. The Mets are in fourth place in the National League East, and have very little hope of reaching the playoffs in 2018. The New York Mets are +144 against the Yankees in the series opener.

“Thor” Takes Mound For Mets

Flamethrower, Noah Syndergaard, will take the mound for the Mets on Friday night. “Thor” has struggled with injuries throughout his career with the Mets, but when healthy, he is one of the most dominating pitchers in the National League. Syndergaard comes into the game with a 5-1 record to go along with a very respectable 2.97 ERA. Syndergaard has done well in his career against the New York Yankees.

The Mets have struggled on offense in 2018, ranking near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories. Playing without Yoenis Cespedes for much of the season, Asdrubal Cabrera has been the only consistent threat for the Mets. Cabrera leads the Mets with 17 home runs and 52 runs batted in. The Mets must find more offense if they are going to play their way back into the playoff race.

Yankees Continue To Slug

The New York Yankees continue to hit home runs at a historic pace, with Aaron Judge even belting a homer in the All-Star Game. Judge leads the Yankees with 25 long balls on the season to go along with his 60 runs batted in. The Yankees have seven players who have hit more than 12 homers this season, including rookie All-Star, Gleyber Torres.

Rookie right-hander, Domingo German, will make the start for the Yankees in the series opener. German has struggled this season at the big league level, but the Yankees hope he will improve with experience. German is just 2-5 on the season with a very high 5.49 ERA through his 12 starts this season. The Yankees need German to pitch better as they near the postseason.

Syndergaard, Mets, Slow Down Yanks

The Yankees have dominated the series history with the Mets, and this series appears to be a complete mismatch on paper. The Yankees have one of the best lineups in baseball, and they wear down opposing pitchers. The Yankees still have some question marks in their rotation, but they hope that German can be a solid starter moving forward.

The Mets will try to counter by sending Noah Syndergaard to the mound for the series opener. If “Thor” can stay healthy, he can go down as one of the best pitchers of this era. Look for Syndergaard and the Mets to slow down the Yankees on Friday night, and defeat the Yankees in the series opener. Bet the Mets +144 on Friday.
