First WSOP Bracelet for Ernest Bohn with Event #40 Win

World Series of Poker

Over the past few weeks, we have watched as several World Series of Poker events have come and gone. The 2017 WSOP is in full swing with several events finishing up this week and new tournaments beginning. Event #40, the $1,500 Stud Eight-or-Better tournament was one event that concluded this week with Ernest Bohn earning the first place win. This was the 68 year old’s first ever cashout in the WSOP, having outlasted several pros in the process including Justin Bonomo and Ted Forrest.

There were a total of 595 players competing in the event which created a prize pool of $803,250 with first place earning just over $173,000. Bohn came to Las Vegas to compete in the WSOP with his eye on the hi-low events. When speaking to the WSOP, Bohn stated he was ready to play cautious and not going to chase, playing the best hands possible. This strategy worked as he earned his first gold WSOP bracelet by outlasting the competition.

In the end, Bohn would sit at the final table with several WSOP bracelet winners including Ted Forrest and Max Pescatori. Bohn sat quietly in the background as the other players took each other out. When heads-up play began between Bohn and William Kohler, Bohn would take the lead and it would be two hours before Bohn would have a nice lead and finally earn the first place win.

On the final hand, Kohler showed A-10 diamonds/K-5-8 while Bohn held 5-7 offsuit/A-6-6. Bohn earned a straight on the final hand and shouted ‘Yes!’ as he realized that Kohler was out in second place and he was the event winner.

Final Results:

First Ernest Bohn $173,228
Second William Kohler $107,063
Third Hal Rotholz $74,200
Fourth Tim Finne $52,272
Fifth Justin Bonomo $37,441
Sixth Max Pescatori $27,275
Seventh Shannon Petluck $20,214
Eighth Ted Forrest $15,245
