Formerly known as America’s Cardroom, ACR Poker has banned remote viewing and virtual machines. These changes come as part of the recent security update focusing on eliminating unfair advantage among players. No More Virtual Machines and Remote Viewing
The Costa Rica-based poker room said through a press release that it was updating its software. The software would restrict players from using some tools that they would previously.
One of these prohibitions is the use of virtual machines. The other is the use of remote viewing software. Players at ACR Poker cannot use these banned tools since Friday, August 4, 2023.
Breaking these new rules will have consequences. However, the poker room is allowing a grace period to allow players to familiarize themselves with the new regulations.
First-time offenders will get a warning about violating the new rules. The second violation will lead to a more severe consequence.
For instance, a player’s account can be suspended. Other punishments can include confiscating funds and banning a player from returning to the site.
The rule about remote viewing is a bit unfair. Some players use them in an innocent setting. For instance, a player may train for a poker game with a coach.
Unfortunately, the new rule restricts this too. According to ACR Poker, it is unfair for some players to get training during an ongoing game. The poker room believes every player should have a fair chance of winning a cash game or tournament without employing someone to help them play.
What Led to the New Rule?
ACR Poker conducted an investigation on their poker software. The study revealed that some infamous activities were happening on the poker software.
One of the findings was that players were involved in coordinated violations of the poker room’s terms of service. The investigation led to the banning of eight accounts from the poker room.
There were 25 other accounts that were associated with the eight accounts. These, too, were removed from the ACR room.
The banning of 33 accounts led to the confiscation of $184,000. The money was transferred to players affected by the banned accounts. Also, the poker room corrected tournament results to reflect the removal of the restricted accounts.
Chris Moneymaker was sad to announce that ACR Poker had to implement a high-tech game to eliminate some problems. The ACR Poker Pro is the face of the site. The poker pro believes the poker room must stay ahead of cheating players.
The Moneymaker noted that he had spent over 20 years playing online poker. He explained the importance of poker rooms investing in technology to deliver fair gaming, especially now that players know how to implement sophisticated methods to cheat.
