FedEx St. Jude Championship Betting Preview

Viktor Hovland Wins BMW Championship

The PGA Tour 2023 season has reached the final weeks of the season. The FedEx St. Jude Championship will be the host for the Top 70 golfers in the world this coming weekend.

TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, will be the course, as the par 70, 7,244-yard location will give these professional golfers a run for their money.

Dustin Johnson is the record holder, as he did it in 2020 when the event was called the Northern Trust. That was played at TPC Boston. Will Zalatoris is the defending champion and the first champion of this new format. Last year was held at TPC Southwind.

Johnson has won the event three times in his career, while Patrick Reed has won twice. Neither Johnson, Reed, or Zalatoris will be in this event, which leaves 2021 champion Tony Finau as the lone defending champion over the past six years.

Scottie Scheffler +700

Keep in mind this is a no-cut event. All 70 guys will make it through the entire weekend of action, in saying that – Scottie Scheffler did not get cut for one event all season.

He did not have one weekend of play where he struggled Thursday and Friday and didn’t get to play during the weekend. That’s impressive.

The guy is the definition of a consistent and excellent golfer. Scheffler had his Top 5 streak snapped at 7, but his 23rd-place finish at the Open Championship back in July kept his Top 25 streak alive.

Scheffler has been in the Top 25 of his last 12 events dating back to the start of the new year. It’s hard not to think Scheffler will be there in the end on Sunday.

Rory Mcllroy +800

Rory has gone home inside the Top 10 in 7 straight events. Rory finished 6th at the Open Championship, which came after his title at the Genesis Scottish Open. The last time Mcllroy missed a cut was at the Players Championship back in March.

Rory has been great all over the course but would like to see a more consistent putter. If he can get putts to fall this weekend in Memphis, look out!

Jon Rahm +800

Rahm did his thing at the Open Championship. After just getting by and making the cut, he recorded a 63 on Saturday to give himself a chance. He then did enough on Sunday to finish in a second-place tie with three other golfers.

Rahm won the Masters back in April and the Genesis in February. He will look to use his big strong body to maneuver his way around the course at Memphis this weekend.

Xander Schauffele +1600

Steady and consistent. That’s how to describe Schauffele. He has made the cut in every event this season except one. He has reached the Top 10 in nine of his events and has a win on the season. He is coming off a 17th-place finish at the Open, which came after 42nd at the Scottish Open.

His last top five finish was back to back at the Wells Fargo and RBC Heritage earlier in the spring.

Xander is always a guy that comes out on top when it comes to strokes gained metrics, but closing events and rounds out has always been a key.

Viktor Hovland +1600

Hovland is another guy that just continues to get the job done. He has yet to miss a cut this season. Following his win at the Memorial back on June 1st, he has backed it up with Top 30 finishes in his last four events. His most recent was a Top 13 finish at the Open Championship.

Hovland has finished in the Top 20 in each of his last five major events. That’s impressive and shows that when the lights get bright, Hovland can answer the call.

Patrick Cantlay +1600

Cantlay struggled at the Open Championship, especially with losing strokes around the green and his putting. That resulted in a rare missed cut at the Scottish Open.

He then came back with a 67 in round three of the Open to get himself into the Top 35. Cantlay made cuts in 14 of 16 events and finished with 6 Top 10 finishes. He did not win an event this season, though.
