Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas hosted the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Event No.77: $777 Lucky 7’s No-Limit Hold’em tournament. Shawn Daniels won the event, earning the $777,777 top prize and his first gold bracelet.
His latest victory exceeded his previous $734,611 poker tournament earnings. Daniels won two WSOP Circuit rings in the past. He beat Julien Montois in the Lucky 7’s, sending him packing in second place.

How Things Unfolded on the Final Day
Only five entrants were still competing on the Lucky 7’s Day 3. Anthony Scarborough was the stack leader when the final table’s action kicked off.
Julien Montois was second on the leaderboard with half of Scarborough’s chips. But the latter drastically lost many chips in the table’s first several hands after losing most of his hands.
He got in a tricky position when Istvan Briski and Charles La Boissonniere doubled him up. Surprisingly, Boissonniere was the first finalist to leave the table. His run ended in fifth place with $125,777.
His exit allowed Daniels to double up through Scarborough and collect part of his stack. The latter’s position dropped from being the stack leader earlier in the day to the bottom of the leaderboard. Briski ended his run in fourth place with $168,777.
Luck was on Briski’s side as he became the stack leader and widened the chip margin in the first level. The player had half of the chips remaining on the table during the three-handed action. Unfortunately, his lead didn’t last for long as Daniels got some of his chips and ended the gap.
Daniels‘ two-pair dominated Briski’s ace-kicker and single pair hence eliminating him in the third position with $226,777. The latter’s exit set up a tough battle of the blinds between Montois and Daniels, who had a 2:1 chip advantage.
Montois stunned his rail when he outwitted Daniels before the break and got the chip lead. But the latter won several crucial pots after the game resumed and reclaimed the lead. He maintained it until the final hand when he called his opponent’s all-in wager on the river and busted him as a runner-up with $400,777.
Daniels’ Reaction After Winning
Daniels didn’t celebrate his victory for long because his fiancé passed away recently. He wished she was with him to enjoy and hold the gold bracelet.
Even so, the champion revealed that he was keen on each move, and the win felt unreal. He was second on the leaderboard on Day 1 with 2,945,000 chips. Daniels had 47,000,000 chips when he reached the final table and was third on the chip standings.
