Rivers Casino Portsmouth has been under construction for a few years. But, Virginia’s first stand-alone casino will launch on January 23 at 10 a.m., and Rush Street Gaming will operate it.
The gaming property held a huge charity event last Thursday, a few days before its highly anticipated launch. LaTreece Arthur, a 757 resident, stated that they are glad to be at Portsmouth and haven’t caught enough sleep before the casino’s opening. Still, they added that many residents enjoyed touring the casino on Thursday.
What Will Be Rivers Casino Portsmouth’s Main Priority?
The casino had various security measures, including installing metal detection systems at its entrance before last Thursday’s charity event. Rush Street Gaming revealed that its prioritized clients’ safety. Also, Roy Corby, the casino’s general manager, added that they have security patrols at their parking lot, more than 1,000 cameras, and a high-end surveillance system.
Portsmouth City asked Rivers Casino’s owners to install several cameras at the top of the property to offer a clear view of what takes place on Missy Elliot Boulevard and Victory Boulevard. The casino will provide big winners with bodyguards to escort them when they leave its premises.

Admirals has two private rooms with a Portsmouth native head chef, and it has a 250-seat capacity. Corby stated that it’s surreal to witness all the activities and amenities coming together. The casino set a tone for the local community’s expectations of a casino since it is the state’s first stand-alone casino.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth is worth $340 million. Shannon Glover, Portsmouth Mayor, stated that the city projects earning $16.3 million in gaming tax revenue in the casino’s first four years of operation. The federal government owns 45 percent of the state’s land, thus denying the state government tax revenue from it.
