NSUS Group, the parent company of GGPoker, is probably making moves to enter Michigan. This comes after the company registered with Michigan authorities as it has previously done in several other states. Usually, NSUS Group registers as a foreign company.
For instance, the company made the same move in 2021 in New Jersey. This gave the company an opportunity to offer its license to iGaming operators in the Garden State. The company made the same move in Pennsylvania, giving its interactive gaming supplier license in the state from February 2021.
Registering as a foreign firm indicates that NSUS Group might be planning to enter Michigan. The best part is that this might give birth to a multi-state online poker among several states.
GGPoker has yet to confirm this news. However, the spokesperson, Paul Burke, noted that the company was looking to expand and provide its software and games to more American poker players.
Potential Partners
It is not clear who NSUS Group will partner with to offer online poker. However, there are many prominent potential partners.
For instance, Golden Nugget or DraftKings operate in New Jersey, Michigan, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Michigan and New Jersey have multi-state poker. These states can easily enter the multi-state poker compact and make it possible for NSUS Group to offer multi-state poker.
888 is another possible partner. In 2020, GGPoker partnered with the poker room to save the room`s poker event following the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the company has renewed its partnership with Caesars until 2026.
Caesars also owns WSOP, another potential partner. However, WSOP and NSUS has not worked together since their last partnership in Ontario in 2021.
In fact, NSUS changed its previous domain, wsop.ca to ggpoker.ca. It also changed its online poker room to WSOP @ GGPoker from WSOP Powered by GGPoker.
NSUS has to partner with a land-based casino to start offering its products in Pennsylvania or Michigan. Alternatively, it can become a Qualified Gaming Entity through a gambling control board before launching its online poker room.
NSUS Is Now in Detroit
NSUS is an Ontario-based company. The firm decided to penetrate the North American market in 2020 with GGPoker software. However, there is less to show that the company has made successful partnerships to enter North America.
One thing that is clear is that NSUS is playing a long game. For instance, it registered as a for-profit company with Licensing and Regulatory Affairs on March 27 and got the license on April 3, 2023.
During the application for the license, NSUS gave reasons for wanting the license. The company expressed its plans to license its poker software to iGaming operators in Michigan.
NSUS cannot launch online poker on its own. It would have to get a license from Michigan Gaming Control Board to launch poker in the state.
Fortunately, the company is in good standing with other authorities. This means that NSUS can set its roots in Michigan. The company got a certificate of compliance from ISED (Innovation, Science, and Economic Development), which it submitted to the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs in Michigan.
