Mid-States Poker Tour stopped at the Venetian, where an epic in its own way took place at the Poker Bowl. For the fifth time in a row, the tournament ended with several remaining players making a deal. This time, after a poker marathon that lasted for more than 15 hours, the remaining four players decided to split the prize and speed up the entire process.
The player who ended up holding a trophy, however, was Johnny Oshana, who managed to win a total of $130,000. Since he agreed to split the money, his prize was approximately ¾ of the payout that was initially planned to be awarded to the tournament winner. His heads-up opponent was Jordan Cristos, who was not that far behind when it comes to the amount of money he won, as he bagged a total of $119,232. The thirds and fourth players were Joris Springael and Seungmook Jung. Both of them were part of the prize split and won $85,000 each.
The original field of the tournament consisted of 908 entries, but only 116 made it to the final day. Oshana stated that the victory felt great, as he landed the biggest live cash in his career. Prior to this event, Oshana has managed to win approximately $21K in live cash prizes, as stated on his Hendon Mob profile.
Oshana is a mechanical engineer in his daily life, and he only plays poker during the weekend. He will use his money to buy a car for his son.
Winning the trophy was not an easy task, as the event hosted some of the most popular poker players in the world, such as Javier Zarco, Adam Hendrix, Asher Conniff, Sean Yu, and Ryan Riess. All of these players failed to reach the final eight.
When there were only 16 players remaining, there was a sort of a stalemate, as none of the players hit the rail for over an hour. However, once the first player hit the rail, things started speeding up after that, and that was when it became clear that Oshana is one of the most likely to win the title.
The Final Table Overview
The final table consisted of eight players, and the first one to hit the rail was Erik Cajelais from Canada, who won a total of $14,092.
He was followed by Kfir Nahum, who won $20,257 as the seventh-placed player, and the sixth place was reserved for Quy Dao from California, who landed a total of $26,423.
Brandon Eisen from Las Vegas, Nevada was fifth, winning $34,350 as his prize. After that, the four remaining players made a four-way deal and continued playing to determine the winner.
Seungmook Jung from South Korea ended in fourth place, and Joris Springael finished third, both of them winning $85K.
In the end, Jordan Cristos from Las Vegas, Nevada, faced Johnny Oshana, but was no match for him, settling for the consolation prize which was not all that bad due to the previously done prize-split among the top-four finishers.
