The 2024 U.S. Poker Open is continuing this week, and event number 2 just recently wrapped up after some great action. While this tournament is going to produce some surprising winners at some of the events, that wasn’t the case with Event Number 2.
There were a total of 99 entries into the $10,100 buy-in tournament that was played as a no-limit hold’em style tournament. Nearly $1 million of total prize money was handed out to the top 15 finishers in this event, and that meant that there was some serious money handed out.
Jesse Lonis was the biggest winner at this event, and he was able to collect $252,450 by coming up with the victory in this event. Not only that, but he was awarded 540 Card Player Player of the Year points and some PGT points as well.
Lonis has already had a monster year so far in 2024 as he has now earned more than $1.4 million in tournament cashes. He is currently in second place in terms of total points so far in 2024, and he has been in many final tables already this year.
With so many big events still to come throughout the rest of 2024, Lonis is going to be looking to cash in even more at bigger events. Earning these big payouts is a huge win for Lonis, but it’s even more important for him to continue to add points.
Lonis is closing in on nearly $9 million in career earnings at live poker events, and at this rate, he should get it by the end of the year.
Some Great Action
These live poker events always seem to bring out some terrific competition, and there were eight players who advanced to the eighth and final day. Lonis came into the final day with the chip lead, but he wasn’t in control the entire time.
At one point, Kristina Holst actually took the chip lead away from Lonis, but that wasn’t a lead that lasted long. Lonis continued to be aggressive throughout this tournament, and he was the man that sent many of the other players packing.
When it came time for heads up play, Lonis posted a massive advantage of 3.5:1 over Aram Zobian. That forced Zobian to be aggressive early in heads up play, but Zobian had a straight flush for the win.
Final Standings
Zobian was able to take home over $163,000 by finishing in second place in this event, and he played some terrific poker. Holst looked like she was going to win the tournament at one point, but she had to settle for $113,850 and a third place finish.
Rodger Johnson came up just short of securing a six-figure payout as he was able to take home $89,100 by finishing in fourth place. Joey Weissman is another player that has had some live poker success and he finished in fifth place for $64,350.
