Online Poker and Glitches — Is There Anything You Can Do?

One thing that some people don’t like about online poker is that there’s a possibility of a glitch happening. The sooner you accept that glitches can occur, the sooner you’ll be able to move past it and enjoy online poker.

Although they are not frequent, they do happen from time to time, and when it does, it can be quite frustrating. Sometimes, they can happen when it’s your turn and that can really ruin your experience. Even the most cool-headed poker players can be put off by glitches.

Daniel Negreanu’s Reaction to a Glitch

One of the reasons why we’re discussing this topic is Daniel Negreanu’s recent experience. “DNegs” currently is taking part in 2020 WSOP Online and was streaming the game live when a glitch happened to him. He seemed to have had a good hand at one point when the computer froze on his turn. Instead of making his move, he couldn’t do anything. His time ran out, and the game automatically folded his cards.

This resulted in an emotional blow-up from Negreanu, who started cursing and punching his desk. This was an unexpected reaction, as Kid Poker is one of the coolest poker players out there, with his emotions well tucked behind a wall of poker face.

He was playing in 2020 WSOP Online Event #10: $600 Monster Stack when that happened. Although he has managed to make it to the money list in several events since the start of the 2020 WSOP Online, Event #10 wasn’t one of his lucky events. Ryan “Im.Sorry” Torgersen won the event, winning a total of $172,361.

Is There Anything You Can Do?

Online poker requires an internet connection, and one of the reasons why the majority of glitches happen is that you lose connection for a short period. At that point, servers get confused, and there’s nothing you can really do if your internet goes down, even for a bit.

This may happen every once in a while, but even if it does, the only thing that is probably going to happen to your hand is that the game will automatically fold for you. However, this can become somewhat an issue if you have a good hand and already invested a lot of money.

Yet, you need to look at this from a brighter side. If you have a good internet provider and a stable connection, the chances of that happening are very low. Even if it happens, it probably won’t affect you so much that you end up losing the game. In fact, you’re more likely to get a royal flush than to experience a bad glitch during an important hand.

Therefore, the least you can do is make sure that your connection is stable and that you’re using a device that can run the poker game easily. Finally, you must be absolutely sure that you have enough battery on your mobile device if you prefer to play online poker this way.
