The Memorial Tournament Betting Preview

Viktor Hovland Wins BMW Championship

The PGA Tour returns to Jack’s Place at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio for the 2023 Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. Started in 1976, the tournament has been hosted by 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus on one of the first courses he designed. The four-day event is annually attended by the best golfers in the world who get their games tested on a tough, but fair layout.

Billy Horschel won it all last season with a four-shot victory over Aaron Wise. Horschel’s four-day total of 275 (13-under par) matched that of Patrick Cantlay’s win in 2021.

The Memorial Tournament is one of the new 17 designated events on tour, which came with an elevated purse that bumped from $12 million in 2022 to $20 million this season. The winner will take home $3.6 million of that total.

Scottie Scheffler (+700) comes into the week as the pre-tournament betting favorite.

Elite Players Ready to Go

The tournament has invitational status on the PGA Tour, which features a reduced field from 156 to 120 players. Adding the Memorial Tournament as a designated event also brings with it an incentive for the top players in the world to play. Eight of the top 10 players in the world are in the field this week along with 20 of the top 25 in the current official world golf rankings.

Headlining the list of elite talent includes world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler and the no. 2 ranked player in the world, Jon Rahm. Rahm won this event in 2020 and had a commanding six-shot lead after the third round the following year before having to withdraw due to a positive COVID test.

Horschel returns to defend his title and is joined by two-time winner Patrick Cantlay and past winners Jason Dufner, William McGirt, David Lingmerth, and Hideki Matsuyama.
