Even so, Matthew Schulte won his maiden Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) in the MSPT Venetian $1,100 buy-in no-limit Hold’em main event.

It attracted 807 entrants from different states. The Ohio poker pro won the title and the $118,874 top prize. He informed MSPT journalists after his victory that he had an amazing run at the final table.

This was his second-largest poker win after the $198,550 he got after finishing 33rd in the 2021 WSOP Main Event. Reports state that he has almost $788,000 in lifetime poker cashes.

Adam Walton reached the final table with the largest stack, and Schulte was third. The former sent Michael Wang packing in the seventh position with $23,480 and extended his chip lead. But, Schulte collected some chips and reduced their gap after using A-Q suited to make a preflop race against William Latta’s pocket sevens.

Latta’s card lost and he exited the event in sixth place. Schulte and Walton busted two opponents.

The latter sent Al-Farouk Mosovore Obi packing in fifth place with $38,685. Schulte busted David Jackson (two-time bracelet champion) in fourth position with $50,437.

Schulte’s A-4 suited dominated Jackson’s A-10 suited and collected his chips on the preflop. The former landed a four and reduced the field. Still, he doubled up Walton after a short while when his pocket nines beat his opponent’s A-Q, earning him the stack lead.

Walton wagered his remaining big blinds in an open-ended straight draw while facing Schulte’s middle pair. Yet, the turn gave Schulte trip sevens and ended Walton’s run in third place with $66,443. The latter’s exit set up heads-up action between Nick Pupillo and Schulte.

9Diamond Suit6Club Suit5Club Suit9Heart Suit completed the board prompting Schulte to use 9Club Suit4Spade Suit to make a tips check as Pupillo used 8Club Suit7Club Suit to wager for a flopped nine-high straight. Still, Schulte made a check-raise before Pupillo made an all-in shove.

The former called while trailing before the 5Heart Suit on the end paired the board earning him the pot and full house. Pupillo took home $88,426 for finishing second.
