NL West Monday Baseball Betting Battle: San Francisco Giants (45-40) vs. Colorado Rockies (41-43)

After struggling to start the season, the Giants have come on of late and have surpassed the Dodgers as the #2 team in the NL West. They tend to thrive in even years, as opposed to odd years.

The Rockies on the other hand have continued to struggle and pile up the losses as the season has waned on. They are below .500 and their pitching has gotten them nowhere. The San Francisco Giants are -120 over the Colorado Rockies on Monday.

San Francisco Giants

They still don’t have a player with 40 or more RBI’s, after 85 games, yet they have only a -12-run differential this far. They are five games over .500 at this point, and they are batting .256 as a team. Brandon Crawford has been the team’s best hitter, batting .315, leading them with 90 hits, 39 RBI’s, and tied for the second most home runs with ten. He has done a good job of getting it done, as Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen have continued to be mediocre.

They will send Madison Bumgarner to the mound for just his sixth start of the season. He started five games in June, his first month back this year. He has gone 1-2, posting a 2.51 ERA in 32 1/3 innings of work. He has not allowed a single run in his last 15 innings of work, striking out 16, walking four, and allowing just five hits.

Colorado Rockies

The Rockies have shown great power in 2018, launching 104 home runs thus far. However, they have been outscored by 46 runs this year, as their pitching has not been able to get it done. Nolan Arenado is in the midst of yet another MVP-caliber campaign, in which he has hit 21 HR’s, driven in 59 runs, and is batting .306. Charlie Blackmon, Ian Desmond, and Trevor Story have all been doing a tremendous job of hitting the long ball. They have got to start improving their pitching, if they want to have any chance at competing for a playoff spot this year, yet.

They will send second-year starter Kyle Freeland to the mound for his seventeenth start of 2018. He has gone 7-6 this year and been the most consistent starter for the Rockies. He has posted a 3.29 ERA in 98 1/3 innings of work, striking out 81 and walking 32. He pitched seven scoreless innings against the Giants in his last start.

Giants beat Freeland this time, win their 46th game

All is well for the San Francisco Giants, who have been playing some great baseball of late. With Madison Bumgarner on the mound for the sixth time this year, they will earn a W, and get him his second win.

Led by the power of Brandon Belt, who will launch a pair of home runs tonight, the Giants will jump all over Kyle Freeland in the early innings. A good night for the Giants, indeed. Our bet for the Monday Night game is the San Francisco Giants over the Colorado Rockies.
