Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros Betting Prediction

The surging Houston Astros meet the struggling Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night in a battle of AL West teams trying to keep up with Oakland. After winning the first two games of the series, the Astros are favored on Wednesday with a moneyline of -210. Meanwhile, Seattle’s moneyline is listed at +175 with an over/under of 8.5 runs.

The Mariners had a promising start to the season, but they’re now showing signs of coming back to earth. They’ve lost three in a row and five of their last seven games, dropping them to two games over .500.

Meanwhile, the Astros are starting to come alive after a poor start to the season. They’ve won five of their last six games to finally climb above .500 on the season. Also, Houston is the only team in the AL West that has scored more runs than it’s given up, including first-place Oakland.

Zach Attack

Houston ace Zack Greinke will take the mound on Wednesday night. Greinke has answered the call this year, going 2-1 with a 2.76 ERA over his first five starts of the season. He’s allowed two runs or less in four of his five starts, including the game when he threw eight scoreless innings against the Mariners earlier this month.

On Wednesday, Greinke will face a lineup that’s scored just two runs over the first two games of this series. Houston’s ace also has a strong track record against most of Seattle’s hitters, with the possible exception of Kyle Seager, who is raging hot right now.

Seager is hitting .346 with two home runs over the past week. Ty France and Sam Haggarty have also found their stride in recent days. However, the bulk of Seattle’s lineup is currently slumping, most notably Mitch Haniger, who is one of the team’s most important hitters and home run leader with five long balls.

Not Dunn

Justin Dunn will get the ball for the Mariners on Wednesday. The 25-year-old looks like he’ll be in the Seattle rotation for a long time to come. Over his first three starts of the season, he’s posted a 3.68 ERA, although he’s yet to go deeper than five innings in a game.

However, Dunn has little experience against Houston’s hitters, throwing just two innings against the Astros in 2019. Despite the Astros scoring just two runs on Tuesday night, their bats have started to come alive lately. Houston is averaging 6.3 runs per game over their past six games.

Yuli Gurriel and Michael Brantley have carried the Houston lineup for most of the season and are both swinging a hot bat at the moment. But Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa are also heating up at the moment. Finally, Jose Altuve is 4 for 9 since his return from the IL on Monday.

Let It Ride

Houston’s hot streak is likely to continue on Wednesday, with Greinke on the mound. The Astros are starting to come around offensively and may not even need that many runs with their ace on the hill. The payoff isn’t much, but you can bet on the Astros -210 to beat the Mariners.
