Los Angeles Angels at Toronto Blue Jays Betting Preview

The Los Angeles Angels head north of the border for a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays that begins on Monday night. Both of these teams don’t appear to be playoff contenders this season, but there is still plenty of time to turn things around. Toronto looks to be in a rebuilding season in 2019, while the Angels appear to be desperate to make a return to the playoffs.

Los Angeles has been playing much better since the middle of May, and they are starting to climb up the standings. The Angels come into this game with a record of 35-37 and are still in fourth place in the AL West. Toronto is buried in last place in the American League East with a record of just 26-45. The Los Angeles Angels are -168 over the Toronto Blue Jays in the series opener on Monday night.

Jackson Not Working Out

The Toronto Blue Jays were struggling to find starting pitching this season, and they thought that Edwin Jackson could solve some of these issues. Jackson has set an MLB record for most teams played for in a career, but he has struggled mightily in Toronto. The veteran is just 1-4 this season with a 10.22 earned run average, and it appears that this might be his last season in the league. Jackson has yet to go deeper than five innings in any start this season, and the Blue Jays better be ready to use their bullpen in this game.

Rookie Vladimir Guerrero Jr. gets a ton of hype in the Blue Jays lineup, but veterans are still the best hitters for Toronto. Guerrero Jr. does have seven home runs and 19 runs batted in, but he is still a year away from really being a great hitter. Justin Smoak is leading the team with 12 home runs, 34 runs batted in and a .364 on-base percentage. The Blue Jays have struggled to find consistent offense all season long, and it is a big reason for their poor record.

Ohtani, Trout Leading Angels Offense

Shohei Ohtani made his return to the Angels lineup earlier this season, and he has been doing some damage. Ohtani has played in just 34 games this season but has blasted eight home runs to go along with 27 runs batted in. Mike Trout is putting up great numbers again this season and leads the team with 19 home runs and 46 runs batted in. The Angels can score some runs, and they should do some damage against Jackson in this game.

The Angels will go with an “opener” in the game on Monday night, with Felix Pena on the mound to begin the game. Pena has gone 4-1 this season but does have an earned run average of 4.55. Los Angeles doesn’t have a very solid pitching staff, and all of them will be needed to help get the team a victory in this game. The Angels’ offense will need to score plenty of runs to take some pressure off of the pitching staff.

Los Angeles Wins Series Opener

The Los Angeles Angels appear to be turning a corner, and they should have a great week against the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto is sending a washed-up pitcher to the mound in this game, and the Angels should score plenty of runs. Bet the Los Angeles Angels -168 over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.
