NFC Wildcard Saturday: Atlanta Falcons at Los Angeles Rams

The National Football League has reached the postseason – and the NFC is up for grabs. This year more than any year in the past – there is much uncertainty on who will represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. The first of 5 games to decide the winner will take place Saturday night. The wildcard game features the Atlanta Falcons on the road at the Los Angeles Rams. The Falcons are the defending NFC Champions, and needed a win in Week 17 to get back to the postseason. The Falcons went 10-6 and finished third place in the NFC South.

The Los Angeles Rams were one of the biggest surprises in the National Football League. The Rams won the NFC West with their 11-5 record. The Rams are coming off a Week 17 loss, but it was without all of their offensive starters. The Rams were the top scoring team in all of the National Football League in the first year under leadership of head coach Sean McVay. The Los Angeles Rams are -6 over the Atlanta Falcons in this wildcard game on Saturday.

Todd Gurley early and often should be the game plan for the Los Angeles Rams. Despite the solid season from second year quarterback Jared Goff, the stud in this offense is Gurley. While he did not win the rushing title, he did lead the National Football League in touchdowns. Gurley finished with more than 1,300 rushing yards and 13 on the ground this season.

Cooper Kupp put together a solid rookie season. The receiver became the go to guy for Goff, with 62 receptions, 869 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Rams defense was not awful, as they allowed just 20.6 points per game.

Falcons With Postseason Experience

The Atlanta Falcons have the postseason experience, as they lost in the Super Bowl a season ago. The Falcons offense sees quarterback Matt Ryan, who finished 6th in passing yard sand Julio Jones, who was second in receiving yards. Jones finished with 1,444 yards on 88 receptions, while Ryan tossed for 4,095 yards. Matt Bryant was 8th in the league in scoring with 137 points.

The Falcons running game is solid as well. DeVonta Freeman finished with 135 yards shy of 1,000 on the season.  He ran for 7 touchdowns as well. The Falcons have won three out of their last four games. The last two losses for Atlanta came to the Vikings and the Saints. In fact, 5 out of the Falcons 6 losses came to playoff teams.

Falcons Upset Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are just not ready to win in the postseason yet. The offensive line still has question marks, and the defense is going to have a tough time with Julio Jones. The Atlanta Falcons are going to come away with an upset win, and go to Philadelphia and have a good shot there as well. Bet the Atlanta Falcons +6 over the Los Angeles Rams in this NFC Wildcard game on Saturday.
