Big Ten Betting Preview: Penn State Nittany Lions at Michigan Wolverines

A battle between the Big-10 East elites, this promises to be an exciting battle today. Michigan is on the verge of a top-four spot and guaranteed entry into the college football playoff. They cannot afford a loss today if this is still their goal and something they are hoping to accomplish.

For Penn State, already with two losses in conference, cannot afford to drop this game. At 6-2, they have been effective this year, but losses sting, especially when you have to perfect in this sport.

Penn State Nittany Lions

Coming off a win over Iowa last week, they will be looking to repeat their successful performance. Trace McSorley has 21 TD’s, with 12 being passing and nine being rushing. Miles Sanders has continued to tear up opposing defenses this year, while Ricky Slade has been a guy they have enjoyed going to in short-down situations, with four touchdowns on 26 attempts. KJ Hamier has far and away been this team’s best receiver, and it will be important for McSorley to try and get him the ball today. There is no better way to beat a rival than by doing it with the big play.

We talk about the pass-rush of Penn State frequently, and they’re going to once again need big days from Yetur Gross-Matos, Shaka Toney, and Shareef Miller, the sack leaders. Three different players have recorded multiple interceptions, so any time they can turn over Shea Patterson, will be big

Michigan Wolverines

Speaking of Shea Patterson, the transfer has looked solid in his first year for the boys in blue. 12 TD’s, only three INT’s, and 1,523 yards through eight weeks. He does what he has to. With Karan Higdon dominating on the ground with 831 yards on 5.4 YPC, and six touchdowns, not too much is needed from the QB. Another guy to watch out for is Ben Mason, who has only rushed 20 times this year, but has crossed the plane on six different occasions. Jim Harbaugh has been doing a very impressive job with his bunch this year.

It’s all about defense with this group, #6 in the nation with only 14.4 ppg allowed. It starts with the defense, which has three pick-6’s, and 12 different players with a sack. They’re led in that category by Josh Uche who has five so far. Josh Metellus has picked off three passes, and is probably the top DB on this team. Watch for him to be matching up with Hamier, in a battle that can decide a lot in this game.

Michigan stays perfect in conference

You didn’t think we would pick Penn State, did you? The defense of Michigan has been stout, and they do an impressive job of not turning the ball over. Because, in a game of this magnitude, the team that succumbs to the pressure first, will not be able to recover.

Shea Patterson leads his guys to a major win.
