Michigan’s online bookmakers and casinos are thriving this year. Their combined revenue in June 2023 increased by 24 percent compared to their June 2022 revenue.
Recent reports state that the state’s online bookies and casinos raked in $1.13 billion in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in H1 2023. Gaming experts predict that the trend will continue for the rest of the year.
The operators earned $169.3 million in June. They generated about $757 million in H1 2022. But they might get over $2 billion by December 31.
Online casino gaming earned Michigan $151 million in June, this being its fourth consecutive month to surpass the $150 million per month revenue mark. The state’s sports gambling sector raked in $18.3 million in gross revenue, which was about 50 percent less than the $35.2 million made in May. Even so, analysts are confident that its performance will improve soon.
The Wolverine State got $28.9 million in gaming revenue from its operators in June. Out of this, $545,632 was from sports betting fees and taxes, while $28.4 million was from online casino fees and taxes.
Three casinos in Detroit paid $7.4 million in gaming fees and taxes. Tribal gaming properties paid $3.5 million in taxes in June.
Michigan’s Gaming Industry Is More Competitive
Caesars Casino Michigan rebranded this week to Caesars Palace Casino Michigan as one of the gaming operator’s measures to increase its share in the state’s online casino market. Its new online casino has large connections to the rewards program and a huge gaming library. It will make the same move in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Tom Reeg, Caesars Entertainment’s Director and CEO, stated that it is their first casino entry into the digital business. Also, the new venture has better live dealers, games, and bonuses than they have been offering.
The company is determined to outshine over ten operators that are in the Michigan gaming industry. Still, it is facing stiff competition from new entrants.
For example, Bragg Gaming Group used the FanDuel platform to introduce its gaming content in Connecticut and Michigan. Yaniv Sherman, Bragg Gaming Group’s CEO, stated that their collaboration with FanDuel to launch its technology and third-party games in the two states proves its success in the country’s gaming sector.

The Wolverine State is among the six states which allow online gaming. Yet, competition and legislative conflicts are on the rise nationwide.
