American League Showdown: Indians (54-43) vs. Rangers (41-58)

It has been a great year for the Indians once again, as they are comfortable atop the AL Central. While all of the teams below have them struggled to win, Cleveland is now eleven games over .500. Life is good for them and all of their All-Star competitors.

The Rangers, on the other hand, have not been so lucky and have been plagued with injuries. They have had a few hitters performing well, but their pitching has not been very good. The Cleveland Indians are -165 over the Texas Rangers on Sunday Night.

Cleveland Indians

Jose Ramirez hit his career-high 30th home run the other night, as his power continues to shine through. Francisco Lindor has also hit 25 home runs, while Edwin Encarnacion has knocked out 22. As a team, these guys have hit 137 home runs, and continued to show what they’ve got. Their starting rotation has been coming through for them this year, even Shane Bieber, who when healthy, is dominant, and is showing us that he has a bright future in this league.

The Indians will send Mike Clevinger to the mound for his 20th start of the season. Thus far, he has gone 7-5, posting a 3.47 ERA in 122 innings of work. He has struck out 118 batters while walking 40. He has struggled in each of his last two starts against the Reds and Yankees respectively, allowing five runs on seven hits over six innings in each of them.

Texas Rangers

Their leading offensive contributor, Nomar Mazara, is just the latest star for this team to suffer an injury, and now he will be out for the foreseeable future. Joey Gallo has shown he has some crazy power with 24 home runs, but in 324 at bats, he is batting just .188, and he has struck out 135 times. Their pitching this year has been awful, with not a single exception. Their best starting pitcher (Cole Hamels) ERA is at 4.36. Boy, how the times have changed in Texas.

The Rangers will send Yovani Gallardo to the mound for his sixth start since joining the team. He has gone 3-1 in his five starts, but has allowed three or more runs on each of them. His ERA in 28 innings of work is 6.75. He had allowed eight runs of work in two innings as a reliever for the Reds. We shall stay tuned to find out if he fixes his struggles today.

Indians dominate Gallardo, Rangers

A good day for Cleveland, as they earn their 55th win of the season. They have been playing sharp baseball of late and that will continue today.

Mike Clevinger will get out there and fire seven innings of one-run ball, while striking out 10 batters to earn his eighth win of the year.

Edwin Encarnacion will launch a pair of home run to help power this Indians squad to the win. Well done Cleveland.

Our pick to win this game is the Cleveland Indians -165 over the Texas Rangers.
