Yi Li Wins $101,146 at Summer Heater Poker Series $1,500 Main Event

Yi Li is the new winner of bestbet Jacksonville’s Summer Heater Poker Series $1,500 Main Event. He beat James Leonard in a heads-up match and won $101,146.

The player beat 47 entrants who advanced to Day 2 despite having the least chips. The main event attracted 347 players in its two opening flights and they created a $497,420 prize pool.

Action on Day 2

The last table was reached after over seven hours of play since 47 players advanced to Day 2. Yet, the unofficial final table was set after Tai Lee used ace-eight to stake his remaining chips. But Peter Le eliminated him using ace-king and was the chip leader early in Day 2.

The poker pro got a few knockouts in the afternoon and set the leaderboard’s pace. Jared Reinstein got busted first at the unofficial final table after Dustin Nelson’s pocket aces beat his ace-king. The latter used big hands later to improve his position on the leaderboard.

Le has the largest stack while Li has the smallest one when the eight-handed official final table was formed. But, Li got lucky when his pocket queens beat Kent’s pocket jacks and Nelson’s pocket tens and helped him win a three-way all-in pot.
The first finalist at the table got busted after almost two hours. Nelson finished eight after Brian Kent used pocket sixes to eliminate him.

Thomas Carroll followed him in the seventh position after Leonard’s pocket fours beat his king-jack. The former reached the final table by getting several big hands.

Li’s Victory

Eliminations occurred fast as Kent finished sixth after using ace-eight to go all-in, but Li’s pocket fives ended his run. The hand increased Li’s stack to almost 2,000,000 chips.

Li busted Le in the fifth position despite having the largest stack on Day 1b. The latter used Big Slick to get in, but the former’s pocket eights held on and increased his stack to almost 3.5 million chips.

Jason Lee, Day 1a’s stack leader, left the table in fourth place after Li’s pocket kings defeated his queen-ten. Jack Summer finished third when he shoved an open-ended straight draw and Li’s mid-pair busted him.

Li got the chip lead after his late run before facing Leonard in heads-up action. The latter used king-queen to shove while the former’s jack-ten landed a straight, earning him $101,146. Leonard won $67,431 as a runner-up.

Li’s Reaction After Winning

Li hasn’t excelled well in competitive events of late as his previous best performance was a fourth-place finish at the 2017 SHPRO Championship in Florida. His latest victory increased his lifetime poker earnings to almost $450,000.Yet, he classifies himself as a cash games diehard.
