A robber shot dead a man who confronted him on Monday at Sacramento’s Capitol Casino. The suspect tried to steal in the cardroom before he shot the man.
The robber discharged his firearm after shooting the man. Sacramento police officers responded fast and arrived at the casino on 16th Street. They soon caught the robber and seized his gun.
The officers attended to the man. Yet, the Sacramento Fire Department’s EMTs’ announced that the wounded man died after a short while.
Still, no one knew immediately if he worked as a security guard at the casino or if he was a bystander, according to a statement from Officer Ryan Woo, the Sacramento Police Department’s spokesman. He informed the Sacramento Bee that the officers believed that it was an isolated scenario as there weren’t other suspects.
The police didn’t reveal the suspect’s name. Instead, they took him to a nearby hospital when he said that he was struggling to breathe. The Sacramento County Main Jail will book the suspect after he is treated.
Then, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will identify the shooting victim’s identity. The police have to notify his family first about his demise. KCRA, a Sacramento-based television station, reported that local police blocked Capitol Casino on Monday, and they were still investigating the crime scene.
Other Shootings at the Casino
The Sacramento Bee reported that there have been other deadly shootings at Capitol Casino in recent years. For instance, Rene Walker, a 33-year-old client, was fatally shot outside its cardroom in July 2021, and the police apprehended Arviel Robertson, a 36 years old individual, for the fatal shooting.
Nicholas Broadway, aged 36, was fatally wounded outside the casino’s cardroom. An armed man shot at security guards and a Sacramento police officer when he accidentally shot Broadway. The Bee said that the court sentenced Luis Alfonso Castillo, currently aged 35, to 40 years in prison for Broadway’s death after he got a second-degree murder conviction in 2020.
Gardena’s Armored Car Theft
An armored truck guard in California was shot a few days ago in a holdup outside Hustler Casino in Gardena, a Los Angeles suburb. Local television stations stated that a local hospital admitted the guard while in critical condition but was likely to recover. Another guard sustained minor injuries in the incident.
A volley of gunfire attacked the guards when they were leaving the truck. Christopher Cuff, a Gardena police lieutenant, stated that it was an ambush during which several robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed sum of money.
A witness claimed that there were 12 shots, while Alvin Spencer, another witness inside the casino, told KTLA that he fled the area. He added that the intense gunfire scared him.
KABC, a local television station, reported that three suspects carried out the armored car heist. The guards were said to have exchanged gunfire with the robbers. Yet, none of them fired shots in the casino.
KTLA reported that players and casino staff were promptly evacuated. Firefighters and police formed a perimeter at the crime scene as the suspects were at large.
