Vanessa Selbst Claims WSOP Event #52 Win

A field of 421 players registered to compete in the World Series of Poker Event #52 and by the end of the tournament, Vanessa Selbst had earned the victory and her second WSOP bracelet. The tournament had a buy-in of $2,500 and was a 10-Game Mix Six-Handed event.

With the win, Selbst joined the ranks of a few women poker players who hold two or more WSOP bracelets. The elite club includes: Starla Brodie, Susie Isaacs and Jennifer Harmon who all have two bracelets as well as Nani Dollison and Barbara Enright who both hold three bracelets.

The event would last over three days and by the last day, only 19 players would remain. Selbst would hold on to make it to heads up play where she would face Michael Saltzburg. When heads up play began, Selbst held 2,640,000 in her stack which was quite large compared to Saltzburg’s 516,000. Selbst then won five of six hands and took a larger lead from the 2-7 No Limit Single Draw round. Saltzburg continued to lose his stack as Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better began.

It would be in the early rounds of 2-7 Limit Triple Draw that Selbst would earn the tournament win. The final hand would see Selbst open on the button and the Saltzburg called and drew two. Selbst then drew one and Saltzburg decided to wager. Selbst would raise the bet and Saltzburg would make the call. Saltzburg would then go all in and Selbst would call and earn the tournament win after revealing the nuts with 7-5-4-3-2 hand.
