In 2011, online poker sites such as Absolute Poker, Full Tilt and PokerStars got in to deep trouble in the United States for particular activities which lead to the infamous Black Friday of the poker world. Now it seems America’s Cardroom may be going down the same path as reports of payment issues were posted online this past Sunday night.
According to a report at PokerUpdate, Mike McDonald took to Twitter to discuss an instance involving America’s Cardroom and payment processing. The poker pro stated that a deposit to @ACR_POKER failed so he contacted support. McDonald was then told to tell the bank that the money was for sporting goods from China and not gambling. Support then repeated the phrase, ‘Sporting goods from China’.
When Black Friday took place, providers of payments would recode the cash to get by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Once McDonald made the tweet, Americas Cardroom responded. Instead of holding back and being vague on the issue, America’s Cardroom stated:
“We have to work with third party companies who say what we have to do on these matters. Apologies for any hustle you may had.”
Funnily enough, the operator used the term ‘hustle’ which did not get past players, serving to further hurt the online poker room. America’s Cardroom then stated the word was a simple auto-correct problem.
If online poker regulation was offered across the board in the United States, players would not be subject to such issues as with what happened to McDonald over the weekend. When options are limited for payment processing as with the UIGEA, operators may suggest players work around the issue to deposit and withdraw funds, just like America’s Cardroom with McDonald.
It will be interesting to see if other players come forward with similar stories from America’s Cardroom such as what happened to poker pro McDonald.
