Phil Ivey Under Pressure from Borgata

Phil Ivey is a living legend when it comes to playing poker and has gained millions of fans worldwide when it comes to this game. Many people tune in just to watch this guy play poker and show his skill in various tournaments.

Sadly, poker is not the only thing that Ivey enjoys, and these other things have been the cause of his trouble – casinos. Ivey had a problem with two casinos where he cheated and managed to earn more than $20 million together with his partner in crime called Cheun Yin “Kelly” Sun. If you like Phil Ivey, you are probably familiar with this case, but it seems that more bad news is on their way.

The two casinos that were Ivey’s and Sun’s primary target were Crockfords Casino in the UK and Borgata in the US. The who games that they played were baccarat and punto banco. Both were the subject to the card cheating method developed by Ivey and Sun called “edge sorting.” In it, the players would remember the edges of the cards well and ask the dealer to turn the deck upside down when dealing, for good luck. It turns out, they were just manipulating the dealer in order to see through the cards.

The casinos sued them and there was a big battle going on in 2017 that seems to have consequences in 2018 as well. The first big thing that happened was to set Gemanco Inc. free and drop down all the charges. This company was the one that made cards which were used for playing baccarat and punto banco in the two casinos.

After that, the legal team that supported Ivey managed to postpone the payment of approximately $10 million, claiming that it is too big of a sum to be paid at once and that it would do an irreparable harm to Ivey’s wallet.
In order to return his debt as soon as possible, Ivey has been on a streak when it comes to poker tournaments, and he managed to earn $2.4 million since he returned to the big poker stage this year.

The newest actions taken by Borgata in the court now pressed Ivey even more to pay these $10 millions as soon as possible. They wanted all parts of the original decision and stated that their re-examination is not favored. This is a huge risk for Ivey at the moment and he may be actually in a lot of trouble.

The original request by Borgata was for Ivey to pay $30 million due to treble damages, which is triple the sum that Ivey had to pay originally. According to VegasSlotsOnlne, Borgata is requesting a reconstruction of the sessions by Ivey and to dig out the value from the baccarat hands that Ivey played. It appears that this casino did not take Ivey’s cheating lightly and are doing their best to win the money back and even earn some more.
