The Commerce started hosting the 30th Anniversary Los Angeles Poker Classic (LAPC) on January 13 and it will end on March 5. The $400 Mixed Omaha event took place last week. It attracted 91 players who formed a $30,030 prize pool.
Perry Green beat all his opponents and took home $7,020. The 86-year-old player is a three-time bracelet champion in the World Series of Poker (WSOP).
This was his first event victory since winning $14,130 in the 1987 Pot Of Gold $225 NLH. Some of the players who won money but didn’t reach the final table included Sirous Baghchehsaraie, Joseph Deluca, Lisa Clay, Emiliano Figueroa, and Eric Hamilton.

Green’s Achievements in His Poker Career
The poker player spent most of his life in Alaska working as a fur trader. He first tried his luck in the WSOP in 1976 when he won his maiden gold bracelet and $68,300 in Event No.4: $1,000 Limit Ace to Five Draw. Green topped Event No.6: $5,000 Limit Ace to Five Draw in 1977 and won $$76,500 in Event No.6: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Non-Pro in 1979.
Green turned up for the 1981 $10,000 Main Event that featured 75 talented players like Hal Fowler, “Amarillo Slim” Preston, Jesse Alto,?Betty Carey, and Johnny Moss. But the field drastically reduced to 38 players late in Day 1. Yet, 21 more players got busted on Day 2.
Doyle Brunson left the tournament on Day 3 leaving Ungar and Bobby Baldwin battling it out for the title. Both of them advanced to the final table but Green lost the match to Ungar.
Does Green Still Love Poker?
Green has occasionally appeared in Las Vegas at the WSOP since 2013. He reached the 2015 Event No.43: $1,000 Super Seniors final table and finished eighth with $24,034. Still, the player finished in the 71st position in the 2021 WSOP’s Event No.5: $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or Better.
He revealed last summer that he still loves poker when he was asked if his passion for the game is as it was when he was young. Green added that going back to Vegas to play was nostalgic even though he likes competing with young players.
Green stopped playing golf and engaging in many physical activities. But poker stimulates his brain. He believes that people who are above 85 years need to engage in something that will keep them updated on recent global changes.
The player finished second in the 1980 Amarillo Slim’s Superbowl of Poker $10,000 Main Event with $62,500 after losing to Gabe Kaplan. The latter recently stunned his fans after retiring as a High Stakes Poker commentator.
