With the return of NBA basketball drawing closer each and every day, there is plenty about which to be excited. Twenty-two teams will be back in action with the same goal: win the title. But, for all of the positivity surrounding this, there are many players that fans would love to see, that just simply aren’t ready to go.
Wall & Beal Have to Wait
The only team in the East not inside of the top eight that was invited to play was the Washington Wizards. Bradley Beal has been otherworldly for them over the past two years as the team’s alpha star. He has been upping his game in John Wall’s absence, which is going to continue.
After sitting out the whole year with various ailments and injuries, Wall has said he is 110% healthy. But it does not seem that he will return for the team’s eight-plus games next month. It’s too bad because many Wizards fans are simply salivating over the possibility of a long-shot run with the reunited back-court.
Both players are All-Stars at their best, so next year will be fun in DC. For now, we anticipate. And next year, the Wizards will try and contend.
Brooklyn Has to Wait
Perhaps the most intriguing situation in the league based on the late resumption of games, Nets fans too, will have to wait until next year. They added Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in the offseason, but got just 20 games out of them. It was known KD would sit the year, and Kyrie just couldn’t stay healthy.
It has been a year since Durant re-aggravated his injury in the NBA Finals, as his rehab has continued. But it seems the plan with him will simply be to wait until next year. And in regard to Kyrie and his shoulder, the prognosis called for him to be sidelined for several months.
They would be a major wild-card in the tournament if they had these two guys here. But next year, they’ll come back and be out for blood.
Spurs to Be Short-Handed
There was little belief around the league in the San Antonio Spurs before play completely stopped. Though they were just four games out of the #8 seed, they had struggled frequently and didn’t seem to be at the same level as the teams in their vicinity.
They had plenty of long losing skids and re-tooled the starting lineup with different players on several occasions. And now as they get invited back and really need to go just 4-4 or 5-3 to make the play-in tourney, they are without a star.
LaMarcus Aldridge had an arthroscopic procedure on April 24 that the team knew would effectively end his season. He had been having another solid season and was their only effective scoring option in the low-post.
In his absence, Jakob Poeltl and Trey Lyles will get a huge boost. And it will be DeMar DeRozan’s team for the remainder of the year. We’ll see if he has what it takes to lead them to a miracle playoff berth.
