NBA News & Notes: Lakers Could Get New Weapon

The long layoff between games is sure to affect the ability of several of the league’s premier players. To offset the potential cold period, they need to put in as much time in the gym as possible. And, we have seen many players doing just that.

Lakers Big Men Shooting Threes?

The Los Angeles Lakers have an abundance of big men on their roster, a problem that other teams would sure love to have. And with their size, they can do a lot of work around the basket. But, JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard may be adding a new part to their respective games.

The two of them have long been revered as effective finishers and explosive dunkers. But when they want to spread the floor, the Lakers put Anthony Davis at center. Video has surfaced of McGee and Howard putting time into shooting the three-ball. This could really open things up.

The Bucks are as dangerous as they are because their biggest player is also their most lethal three-point shooter. Imagine the Lakers bigs shooting with even half the confidence/accuracy of Brook Lopez. This is a little different than when Andrew Bynum shot a three and was benched by Mike Brown in 2011.

This could be effective. Watch out.

Anunoby adding to his game?

Last year was a weird one for Toronto’s OG Anunoby. He lost his starting job to Kawhi Leonard, and an injury took up most of his year. So, coming back in as a starter this year gave him a significantly better opportunity to contribute. And all this time off has given him time to work even harder.

He’s spent this time off working on shooting, ball-handling, and passing. We know that his ability as a defender allows him to earn several extra minutes. And that if he scores 15 points in a game, it is kind of a big deal. He needs to be able to score more.

And in working on these things, he’ll help the Raptors continue with their impressive ball movement, and could get himself a few additional minutes ahead of Norman Powell.

Turner living in the gym?

Indiana’s Myles Turner is not actually living in a gym. But he might as well spend all of his leisure time there. Turner has had gym access for the past month and has been putting countless hours into continuing to work on his game.

Turner had a makeshift gym in the family garage that he had been using before this. So basically, it has been nonstop workouts for him. And this should come as no surprise to any basketball fans. Turner has always been a tireless worker, trying to become better and better.

Turner is going to have a tremendous opportunity in Indiana to be a featured part of the offense with Victor Oladipo not playing. He is still far from the number one option, but he will now play a more prominent role in the big games.

Given that this franchise hasn’t won a playoff series since 2013-14, this is an important year. They can only lose in the first round so many times. Turner putting in the work definitely shows us that this team is very hungry.
