Just yesterday it was announced that PartyPoker New Jersey signed a new sponsorship deal with the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils. The new multi-year deal is a first for the United States and now more information of the partnership has been released.
The deal was first announced yesterday by officials of both groups including Norbert Teufelberger the Chief Executive of bwin.party digital entertainment and Scott O’Neil the Chief Executive Officer of the Devils, 76ers and the Prudential Center. Both O’Neil and Teufelberger commented on the new deal between the sports teams and the online gaming operator.
The fact that PartyPoker was able to secure a deal with the teams is a first in the United States and one that has raised many questions in both industries. In a recent report by The Associated Press, O’Neil states that the deal is new territory and that hopefully the reward will outweigh the risk. O’Neil stated:
“I think for us the most important thing is being with a partner that can really engage our fans in a smart way and someone who understands for those of our fans who do play poker and those that are inclined for gaming whether they come to concerts here or a Sixers’ game or a Devils’ game they will be treated like a royal flush, if you will.”
Teufelberger spoke about the past and how PartyPoker was formerly in the US seven years prior and that they wanted to get back in the US for some time. PartyPoker already has similar sponsorship deals with soccer clubs in Europe such as Manchester United, a club in England. Teufelberger says the company has learned a great deal with such sponsorship deals and understands that in the United States they are selling a product that has a tendency to seem problematic. The option has to be engaging and entertaining without being addictive.
The time frame for the partnership between the poker company and the sports teams was not disclosed as well as the amount spent for the sponsorship. We do know that PartyPoker will be integrated into the websites and social media accounts of both the 76ers and the Devils. Mobile applications, tickets, in-arena signage and hospitality will all include PartyPoker integration as well. The Prudential Center will also house booths that will show individuals how to play poker online.
The new partnership will kick off this weekend visually when the Devils play at the Prudential Center as well as when the Sixers play at the Wells Fargo Center. Anyone at the Prudential Center will be able to play online while at the game if they choose to download the PartyPoker app via their mobile device.
