Long-Standing PokerStars Affiliates Receive Termination Emails

PokerStars LogoChanges have been taking place with PokerStars for some time now with the recent acquisition by Amaya Gaming but many may not have been expecting the most recent change. According to a report at PokerNewsDaily, certain affiliates of PokerStars are reporting they have received emails in which their PokerStars affiliate status is being terminated, even with long-standing accounts.

The emails were reportedly received last week and announced that PokerStars was terminating the affiliate agreements. Within the agreement, the affiliate would earn revenues for providing PokerStars with players. PokerStars has the right to terminate such accounts as it is stated within the affiliate agreement. PokerStars can cancel such agreements any time they wish with the poker room providing a seven day notice before the account is terminated.

Players took to Two Plus Two to discuss the situation and PokerStars Communication Team member Michael Josem, got online to discuss the terminations. Josem stated the process was standard procedure and that PokerStars has agreements with thousands of third party websites, which would be affiliates, to help market the PokerStars services and encourage new players to play at the site.

Josem continued by stating that the online poker room will routinely review these agreements with affiliates to ensure they are productive. Josem stated that the affiliate accounts terminated were small in number and these affiliates were not recruiting many new players as well as doing little in way of active promotion for the site.

Basically, the affiliates terminated were still earning revenues from players who signed up at PokerStars ages ago. The affiliates could still earn money for players who had signed up so long ago and PokerStars did not feel these affiliates should continue to be paid.

While PokerStars is playing off the terminations as minor news, the affiliates who are affected to feel the same way. One affiliate on Two Plus Two stated that PokerStars was going after the super-affiliates and the terminations was merely a ‘greedy financial decision’.
