It’s Official: GGPoker Sets a $20 Million Guarantee for 2021 Online Main Event

It’s Official, GGPoker Sets a $20 Million Guarantee for Its 2021 Online Main Event

GGPoker is holding an international edition of the World Series of Poker later this year. It is releasing information about the festivals one piece at a time, and now we know the online Main Event has a guarantee of $20 million. Although the amount is $5 million less than last year’s, the guarantee is one of the four largest amounts offered in an online poker tournament.

The event is the second online international festival of the WSOP Main Event. Following last year’s unexpected shutdown due to the COVID-19, GGPoker used the opportunity to host a world-breaking online WSOP event.
With the huge number the event attracted, saying last year’s online WSOP event was a success would be an understatement. Yet, the series started with several technical glitches as the site was still new and went big by hosting a massive WSOP field. But, it eventually became a successful event.

GGPoker allocated a guaranteed prize of $25 million on the 2020 online main event. With more than expected entries, the prize pool increased to $27.5 million, a number that is yet to be broken by another poker tournament prize pool.

The lower prize pool this year is well thought off. Last year, many poker tournaments did not occur, leading to bloated entries in the WSOP event. This year, there have been multiple tournaments, and the 2021 online WSOP Main Event might not attract many players.

2021 WSOP Main Event Will Be One of the Biggest Tournaments Ever Held

The guarantee is the same as two other pre-pandemic events, partypoker MILLIONS Online in 2018 and 2019. The operator surpassed the guarantee with $1 million for each event without any problem. Thus, GGPoker hopes to raise the money with a similar buy-in as last year’s $5000.

Another massive event in the history of poker is the Sunday Million‘s 14th anniversary, held by PokerStars. It occurred in March 2020 and attracted 93016 entries, each contributing a buy-in of $215. The guarantee prize was $12,500,000 but it increased to $18,603,200.

The 15th anniversary of Sunday Million by PokerStars is also on the list with a $12 million guarantee. The amount increased to almost $14 million with 62,116 entries.

The 2020 High Roller Championship by GGPoker, WCOOP Main Event in 2010, and Sunday Million 13th and 5th anniversary also had guarantees exceeding $10 million.

How Many Day 1 Phases Will Be Played?

GGPoker has suggested that there will be several Day 1 phases. They also suggest these will be played as freezeouts. The decision to make this official is still on pause as the operator takes it on Twitter for suggestions from players.
One of the questions posted on Twitter asks the number of bullets a player will fire on each day 1 flight. Another question asks about the number of day 1’s a player can join.

The lack of clarity on the WSOP Main Event structure is confusing many players. Today, there is no full schedule of the event, and players are unable to make their plans for the August bracelet action.

However, several details are precise. For example, the event is scheduled to start on August 1, 2021, and would run up to September 12, 2021.
