Just a few days ago we brought you the news that online poker room PokerStars had parted ways with Viktor Blom. Blom and the online poker room mutually decided to part ways and Blom’s contract would not be renewed. Now the online poker room has announced they have signed a new player who will represent the free play site, PokerStars.net.
PokerStars has signed Gerry Dee, a comedian best known for his role on CBC’s Mr. D. Dee will be representing the PokerStars.net site, which is a free play option. Dee will be representing the poker room in special television commercials as well as during live poker tournaments. In the deal, PokerStars will also be the title sponsor of Dee’s comedy tour titled The Gerry Dee Comedy Tour.
Dee commented on the signing by stating: “I’m better at math and statistics than the teacher you see on TV, so I’m not a bad poker player. I’m no pro but I’ve always been a bit of a poker buff. I really admire the skill it takes to compete at the top level. I’m excited about this partnership and am looking forward to improving my game!”
As we mentioned, Dee will be featured in promotional television commercials to promote PokerStars. The comedian will be featured this fall in a special PokerStars commercial which will be used to promote a series of special poker tournaments. The special event will give Canadian players an opportunity to win a trip to the Bahamas to compete in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Dee will also be attending the event and will use his time in the Bahamas to film his experience. A television special will then be created around the comedian’s experience at the poker series.
