The U.S. Poker Open championship ended on June 15, 2021. It featured world-known and high-stakes poker players, including Sam Soverel, David Negreanu, Sean Winter, Jake Daniels, Ali Imsirovic, and several others.
This tells you it was not easy for David Peters to scoop his second U.S. Poker Open championship in a row.
The USPO championship kick-off on June 3, with Jake Daniels scooping the first event win. Sam Soverel followed by winning the second event. Sam’s win was just the beginning as he was to be David peters competition later.
It looked like David would win the 2021 U.S. Poker Open championship. But, Sam had a chance to come from outside the top ten and even win the twelfth and the final event of the 2021 USPO.
Although he had the shortest stack while going to the six-handed final table on June 15, Sam had the chance to come out strong. David also entered the 11th event with a short stack and still won.
Soverel advanced in the tournament, standing, achieving 101 championship points and $168000. He finished at seventh position, six places away from David.
David Peter’s Win
David has not been playing most PokerGO Tour events. However, he still managed to return to the top form by playing the 2021 U.S. Poker Open. Peter was also the winner of the USPO championship in 2019.
This is the second time in a row that he won a $50,000 reward and took the Golden Eagle trophy. While at it, he avoided facing Sam Soverel during the last day event at the USPO.
David describes his run to the top crazy. It had been over 18 months since he participated in live poker.
Peter said he was happy to return to play against other great players he has been playing against over the years. He was delighted to see Sam fail to scoop the $50,000 USPO finale.
However, David’s win did not come easy. Although he has already won three events, he did not enter the last day’s event. However, players such as Cary Katz, Ali Imsirovic, Sam Soverel, Andrew Lichtenberger, and Joe McKeehen intended to win this year’s USPO title and entered the last day’s event.
But only Sam reached day two only to finish at fifth position. The first win for David was the seventh event. It featured 99 players and a prize pool of $99000. David won $217800.
Peters also played Short Deck at event 10 with an entry of 99 players. Out of the $270000 prize pool, David scooped $124200. The last event that earned David his third win at the tournament is the No-Limit Hold’em event 11.
David cashed in $465750 from the $1725000 prize pool. His three wins put David on top of the form with 646 points. Sean Winter came second, Ali Imsirovic third, and Stephen Chadwick fourth with 427 points.
The Break Is Over
Although Peters has not played most of the PokerGO Tour matches, it seems like he is over with the break. David is planning to return and play a full schedule for the remaining part of the year.
As there are high-stakes upcoming events, we can expect more of David. Peters said he had missed many PokerGO Tour events but is hopeful of returning and earning a lot of points.
