Following the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, Poker Masters had no option but to go with an online format. This year, the event is returning to a live format starting today, September 9, to September 18, 2021.
It will be a 12-event tournament that is a part of the PokerGO Tour scheduled events. Poker Masters gives high rollers a golden chance to get some more money as they prepare for the 2021 World Series of Poker, slated to start at the end of September.
More About the Tournament
The 12-event tournament is for the best of the best willing to spend to climb up the leaderboard. The first 11 events have double re-entry options, which allow players to spend three times the first entry fee. The last event has one re-entry option with a buy-in of at least $100,000.
The minimum buy-in for the first 11 events is $10,000. The first five events are the $10,000 No Limit Hold’em, which will be two-day tournaments.
On September 9, there will be a $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha tournament. On September 12, the biggest event in the whole schedule will be a $10,000 Eight-Game Event that will see players test their skills.
The buy-in price will go up on September 14, with a $25,000 No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha playing out. Four days later, the $50,000 No Limit Hold’em tourney will take place, paving the way for the Main Event the following day, on September 18.
The overall championship award is a Poker Masters Purple Jacket which is eligible for all players. The winner of the Purple Jacket will also get $50,000. The final table for all events will be live-streamed on PokerGO starting September 8 to September 19.
A Flashback of Poker Masters
Last year, Poker Masters had to adapt for the coronavirus pandemic. Thus, the tournament did not occur in a live casino but online. Several world-known players, including Kahle Burns, Mike Watson, Steve O’dwyer, Dan Smith, Mustapha Kanit, and Jason Koon, participated in the online event.
Mustapha would have won the championship to join Ali Imsirovic and Linus Loeliger, who are two times winners of the tournament. But, he was beaten by Alexandros Kolonias, who acquired enough points to win the overall championship and create over $3 million in wealth and a Purple Jacket.
The previous year, Sam Soverel won two of the ten scheduled events, including the $50,000 Main Event, which earned him the Purple Jacket. Sam played against Imsirovic, who was the 2018 Poker Masters winner.
In 2017, Steffen Sontheimer won the overall championship and the Purple Jacket. That year’s roster had five events.
The winner of this year’s tourney is still a question with no answer because we are yet to know all the players that will be participating. But, Imsirovic and Sean Perry are some of the contenders expected to play.
Jake Schindler, Soverel, and Sean Winter are other players that always seem interested in Poker Masters. For now, we have to wait until the 2021 Poker Masters kick-off to start guessing who is likely to go home with the Purple Jacket and prize money.
