For the first time ever, the World Poker Tour will be offering poker tournaments in Japan. Yesterday, officials of the WPT announced that after partnering with the Japan Poker Union Corporation, the World Poker Tour will be launching WPT Japan this November.
The first ever stop in Japan will take place from November 23rd to the 26th in Tokyo with only four events planned in the beginning to test the waters to see if there is a market for such poker gaming in the region. Qualifiers will be offered at local poker clubs for players to try and earn seats to WPT Japan tournament events.
Yabuuchi Nobuhiro, a representative of the Japan Poker Union Corporation, stated in a press release that the group is very pleased to have partnered with the World Poker Tour for the brand-new event. The Corporation feels that the WPT is the perfect brand in which to launch a new chapter for poker in Japan.
Additional info on the WPT Japan events has yet to be released as far as buy-ins or tournament options are concerned. The press release did state the prizes for the WPT Japan events will be prize packages to future events in the WPT. The Main Event winner of the WPT Japan will earn a prize package to the Season XVII World Poker Tour event taking place in Beijing as well as have the ability to choose a package to another World Poker Tour event that takes place in the Asia-Pacific region.
Players who take part in the tournaments of the WPT Japan will be able to earn points towards the Player of the Year Leaderboard competition for the WPT Asia-Pacific.
