When participating in a poker tournament, players expect the event to finish with a champion. However, an odd thing happened during the recent Parx Big Stax XXIV 1500 when not one, but two champions were named. The $1,600 buy-in event saw Anthony Garofalo and Greg weber begin heads-up play pretty even in chips, which lead to a deal and two co-champions for the tournament.
Even though the Parx Casino event had co-champions, it was Weber that was named the first-place finisher, taking home $104,233 for his efforts. Garofalo was named the second-place finisher and took home $97,521.
A total of 376 players would compete in the event with the final day seeing only 13 returning to the felt. Weber would begin the final day with the chip lead and the final table would be ready once only 10 players were left in the competition.
Game play would whittle down to the remaining two, Weber and Garofalo, both ready for heads-up play. With similar chip stacks, the two agreed to a deal before two-handed play began. With the deal in place, both would be named champion, but Weber would earn a higher pay-out and first place due to have a slightly larger chip stack.
