Wyndham Championship Betting Preview

Viktor Hovland Wins BMW Championship

It’s the final regular season event on the PGA Tour for the 2023 season. The golfers move to Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, for the Wyndham Championship.

The golf course has been around for nearly 85 years and plays a par 70, with more than 7,100 yards of beautiful play.

The event features a prize pool of $7.6M, and Tom Kim is the defending champion. Kim beat John Huh and Sung-Jae Im last season. Henrik Stenson and J.T. Poston hold the record for the best tournament score, with 258.

Poston did his in 2019, while Stenson did it in 2017. Brandt Snedeker has won this event twice, including in 2018 when he won by three strokes over Pan Cheng-Tsung and Webb Simpson.

Let’s take a look at the 2023 field and give our best thoughts on a betting preview for the event.

Sungjae Im +1600

The favorite in this event and the runner-up last year. This should be an interesting event for him after missing the cut last week at the 3M Open.

Im has made the Top 10 seven times this season and made the cut in 20 out of 26 events. Im finished 20th in the open, which is his best finish since his 8th place finish back in early May at the Wells Fargo. Im currently is 35th in the FedEx Cup standings.

Hideki Matsuyama +1800

Hideki was one of the favorites last weekend at the 3M and came up with a 30th-place finish. Matsuyama went 13th at the Open Championship the weekend before. He has missed the cut just once over his last 11 events. That was at the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the end of June.

Hideki has been solid with SG: Off-the-tee and also SG: putting so far. He is always a threat to take down a weekend tournament, and this is one of those. Matsuyama is currently 54th in the standings.

Sam Burns +2000

Burns comes into the event in 19th place in the FedEx Cup standings. He has made more than $6.6M on the tour this season. With 4 top-10 finishes this season, it’s been a breakout season. He did not fare well at the Open Championship, firing a 73 and 75 to miss the cut.

Previous to that, Burns finished 19th at the Scottish Open. His best finish recently was at the end of May, where he wrapped up a 6th place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Shane Lowry +2200

Lowry has some work to do, as he sits just inside the Top 25 for the FedEx Cup standings. The 36-year-old from Ireland missed the cut at Royal Liverpool.

That was a disappointing finish for him after his 12th-place finish at the Scottish Open. In fact, five of the previous six events for Lowry saw him inside the Top 20. With his back to the wall a little, expect Lowry to shoot well in this event.

Russell Henley +2200

Henley comes into the event 33rd in the FedEx Cup Standings. He has won over $4.3M on tour this season. His last finish was not good, as he went 73, 76 at the Open Championship and failed to make the cut.

Previous to that, Henley went five straight events in the Top 35, including four in a row that went Top 20. His best finish was fourth place at the Masters back in April.

Adam Scott +2200

The 43-year-old from South Australia needs a big week. He is currently on the outside looking in, 80th place in the FedEx Cup standings. A big week could get him inside the Top 75, which qualifies for the event.

Scott has made the cut in 15 of 17 events this season and finished inside the Top 10 four times. His recent finish was 33rd place in the Open Championship, finishing +1 for the tournament.

Si Woo Kim +2500

Kim is always a guy that could get hot and win an event. He has struggled in his last two events, finishing 127 and 108th, but fourth at the Memorial back in June shows his ability to go low for a weekend.

Kim comes into the event 18th in the FedEx Cup standings. He finished 2nd back at the Byron Nelson in early May.
