While a merger with rival FanDuel seems imminent, DraftKings continues to make changes to their daily fantasy offerings, just recently announcing two updates for the core product as well as an update for DK Live.
For the core product, DraftKings has provided an update for social interaction with a mobile chat option in Leagues. This option is for users of the mobile application of DraftKings and will provide basic chat functions in Leagues. Within the Leagues option of the platform, users will be able to have a group of individuals to play in private with contests customizable and exclusive only to those who are invited.
The second update involves Facebook accounts of DraftKings members. Users of DraftKings can connect their Facebook account to their account within the DFS site on the Android and iOS application. This provides a social aspect to game play.
DK Live is the application that was created specifically for NFL games. This app has now added the NBA to the lineup, offering one more product in the mix. DraftKings released an announcement on the matter stating that players will have access to all the critical information needed to play including breaking news, highlight feeds, analysis by experts, etc, with the addition.
With reports surfacing a few weeks ago that FanDuel and DraftKings are about to merge, it has many questioning what the updates could mean, if anything. It is possible that DraftKings already had the plans in the works and just went with the updates to see how players respond. It could also be that the news is simply rumor and both companies are not considering a merger.
For now, daily fantasy sports players can enjoy the new updates to DraftKings and we shall see in time if the two companies remain separate entities or if they decide to join as one, creating a mega DFS brand in the industry.
