UFC 291: Sandhagen vs. Font Betting Preview

The UFC is back yet again this weekend with a live event in Nashville for the first time since 2019. Bantamweights Cory Sandhagen and Rob Font are set to face each other in a 140 lbs catchweight bout.

After Usman Nurmagomedov dropped out of this main event due to injury a few weeks ago, Font stepped up and took this fight on short notice. Sandhagen is coming in as the big betting favorite with his slick footwork and diversity of attacks, but Font has the power and the boxing ability to catch anybody in a 25-minute fight.

Let’s take a look at this matchup closer and find out what the best betting prediction will be this weekend in Nashville.

Cory Sandhagen–Win-Win Situation

The Sandman” is coming into this fight against Font with a win-win mentality. He has confidence that he will win, and he thinks he deserves a title shot after this performance coming up on Saturday night.

Sandhagen is a tall, lengthy bantamweight with unbelievable footwork and a great plethora of offensive attacks. His slick counterstriking, his flashy Tae Kwondo techniques, and now all the way into the wrestling he has developed have been very beneficial for him.

He is 3-2 in his last five bouts, but his last two performances have been dominant against top-10 opponents. He dismantled Marlon Vera earlier this year and looks to keep proving that no one outside of the title picture can give him any trouble.

Rob Font–No Easy Path to Victory

Font has a lot of work cut out for him this weekend while going up against Sandhagen. He has a classic boxing style where he fights behind a great, stiff jab and sets up his right hand. He also will throw solid leg kicks and can counter very well in the boxing range.

The constant pressure of Font is what gives his opponents the hardest time, but Sandhagen has the elite footwork to really make it difficult for Font to find him standing in front for long enough to land shots.

Font has been wearing a lot of damage on his face early in his recent fights, which comes from scar tissue and damage over the years. This could be an ugly fight for Font on Saturday night.

Sandhagen vs. Font Pick and Prediction

After looking at the recent fight footage of both Sandhagen and Font, breaking down the statistics, and looking over the betting odds for this matchup, it’s safe to say that all signs point to Sandhagen getting his hand raised on Saturday night.

Sandhagen is just going to be too diverse in his offensive attacks while using footwork to change angles and make it really frustrating for Font to try to find his chin. The frustration of Font will only lead him to open up to counters from Sandhagen.

The best chance that Font has is to give Sandhagen a steady dose of lower-leg kicks to slow down his movement and start landing that stiff jab. Throwing that jab with bad intentions every time Sandhagen is squared up to him or when he throws kicks can really upset the rhythm of the betting favorite.

All in all, the smart bet is with Sandhagen to get the job done inside the distance.
