Tuesday Interleague Baseball: Phillies (58-48) vs. Red Sox (75-33)

This year has been kind to the Phillies, after a long playoff drought. The wins have started to come for them, after it’s been a long road back to competitive baseball.

The Red Sox, on the other hand, have been historically dominant. They continue to defeat all the teams they play, while showing they really don’t have a weakness. AND, they just got Ian Kinsler, so there’s that. The Boston Red Sox are -145 over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.

Philadelphia Phillies

Led by Rhys Hoskins, this team’s offense has looked good this year, and have been coming up big in the home run category. Maikel Franco, Carlos Santana, and Odubel Herrera have all shown signs of power and big run driving-in ability. Their ace, Aaron Nola, is having a Cy Young type of campaign and has been leading a staff with some solid stuff. He’s been a consistent winner all throughout the year and is up there with the likes of Max Scherzer at this point. Philly will be looking to bounce back from their extra innings loss last night.

They will send Jake Arrieta to the mound for his 21st start of the season. In 112 1/3 innings of work, he has posted a 3.45 ERA. Arrieta has struck out 80 batters while walking 38. In his last start against the Dodgers, he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits, over six innings.

Boston Red Sox

Where to begin? This team has been by far the best in baseball, even while competing with the extremely talented Yankees. They’ve got Mookie Betts, who has been impossible for opposing pitchers, JD Martinez who has 32 HR’s and 89 RBI’s, and they have Andrew Benintendi, who has been on a tear of late. Their starting pitching has been on another level, led again by the great Chris Sale. David Price and Rick Porcello have both also been winning consistently this year, a big difference from last year’s team.

Drew Pomeranz will take the mound for his tenth start of the season. He has struggled with injuries this year, and will make just his second start in the past two months today. In 41 2/3 innings of work this year, he has gone 1-4, posting a 6.91 ERA. He has struck out 40 batters while walking 23, and has not shown any of the flashes of dominance we saw from him last year.

Red Sox win their 76th game in #109

This team is as unbeatable as a team in major league baseball can be right now, and that will continue tonight. Another night and another victory for the Sox, even with a struggling Drew Pomeranz on the hill.

Led by the power of JD Martinez and Mookie Betts, who will both be going yard tonight, they will earn another victory. A pair of doubles from Andrew Benintendi will also help their case.
