A potential NFC playoff matchup will be heading our direction on Sunday when the legendary Tom Brady goes on the road with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to take on the San Francisco 49ers.
All signs were pointing up for the 49ers and their squad until the unfortunate end to Jimmy Garoppolo’s season.
Now it is up to the backup from Iowa State, Brock Purdy, to take over this offense and lead the 49ers to where they want to go. They would have been the de facto Super Bowl favorites after their win over Miami, but now they are a wait-and-see type of team.
Even still, the defense is terrifying in San Francisco, and their team has skill weapons that can absolutely dominate all over the place.
As long as Purdy can get the ball to those skill position players, they can handle the rest for them.
The 49ers still draw a pretty decent size favorite over the Buccaneers at home in this game at -5.5.
A tale as old as time itself: Tom Brady
Despite trailing for most of the game against the New Orleans Saints, Brady worked his magic one more time.
With minimal time left on the clock, Brady put on his helmet and led his team down the field to score the go-ahead touchdown to steal the win from the Saints after a few questionable decisions.
It certainly helps the Buccaneers’ chances in the NFC South moving forward. Leading their division, they will only have to hold on for a few more weeks to maintain that lead.
A tough matchup here against the 49ers will put Brady on the ropes, but he has been in this situation as an underdog many times before.
Replacing a starting quarterback late in the season
After much trial and error, the 49ers were able to get Jimmy G clicking with the rest of their offensive talent. Unfortunately, that was short-lived, and now Brock Purdy will be forced to carry the load.
He has all of the tools at his disposal for success, but that doesn’t mean he is ready for the spotlight here.
This team has championship aspirations, and they have been a part of the best teams in the league for a couple of seasons now.
It’ll be a quick wake-up call for Purdy to showcase whether or not he is ready to take the reins.
Buccaneers @ 49ers Betting Prediction
There are still more than a few weeks before the teams really get into desperation mode for wins and playoff seedings.
Both the Buccaneers and the 49ers are leading their divisions, and a win in this game will help increase that cushion moving forward.
Being that there will be a backup leading the 49ers, the Buccaneers have a much better shot than would have been predicted two weeks ago.
Brady has a little bit of momentum going in the last couple of weeks, so roll with the Buccaneers to win this game on the road as the underdog at +5.5.
