Saturday Night Baseball: Brewers @ Giants

The Milwaukee Brewers will visit AT&T Park to face the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night.  The Brewers are 60-46, good enough for second place in the National League Central division. They trail the Chicago Cubs for the division lead by one and a half games.  A win in this game could potentially draw them within a half game, should the Cubs lose. They also hold a 2 and a half game lead for the first wild card spot in the National League over the Diamondbacks.  The Giants are hovering right around .500, currently holding a 52-53 record. They are in fourth place in the National League West division, trailing the first place Dodgers by 6 and a half games. It would be tough, but if they could start a winning streak now, they could possibly reach first place by the end of the season.  Milwaukee is slightly favored in this matchup: at -114.

Pitching Matchup

Jhoulys Chacin will be on the mound for Milwaukee.  Chacin has a 9-3 record, and has a 3.58 ERA.  These stats show that good hitting has led him to be able to give up some more runs, but still win games.  However, pitching at AT&T park has been friendly to him throughout his career. Previously, he pitched within that division, with the Rockies and Padres.  His career ERA in AT&T park is 2.02. Look for him to try to build on that great stat in this one.

Johnny Cueto will get the start for San Francisco.  Cueto has recently been recovering from a sprained elbow, an injury that cost him 61 games.  Regardless, he is still 3-1 this season, and a 2.76 ERA. He has lost some velocity due to his elbow troubles, so it will be interesting to see how he approaches pitching to this Brewer lineup.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers have no shortage of successful hitters in this lineup, but Christian Yelich has been the most consistent in terms of batting average.  He is hitting .317 on the year. Jesus Aguilar, along with his heroics in the All-Star game, has driven in 72 runs on the year, and has crossed the plate 51 times.  Any combination of these two or of the several other hitters having a great season could propel Milwaukee to victory in this one, not to mention how well Chacin has pitched here in the past.

San Francisco Giants

Brandon Crawford leads the Giants in batting average, with a .286 mark.  He has also driven in 42 with his bat. Brandon Belt is the actual team leader in the RBI category, with 43.  Regardless of how well these two Brandons have been playing this season, it is hard to imagine the Giants walking away victorious in this one, especially with what Cueto has been enduring.

Brewers Top Giants

Chacin has been seemingly unhittable throughout his career at AT&T Park, and Cueto has been losing velocity on his fastball due to his elbow issues.  Need I say more? The Brewers are also hitting the ball better up and down the lineup in every category. They are just the better team. Bet on the Milwaukee Brewers at -114.
