Monday Night Basketball: Bulls @ Mavericks

The Chicago Bulls visit the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, where they will take on the Dallas Mavericks.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm central time. The Bulls are currently 0-2 on the season, despite some good offensive performances from their talented young guards.  Their first game was a 127-108 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on the 18th. Then, on the 20th, they lost a heartbreaker to the Pistons.

The game was close to all the way through until the Pistons built a sizeable lead in the 4th quarter.  The Bulls rallied to the point of tying the game, but could not close the gap, losing 118-116. The Mavericks, on the other hand, are 1-1 on the season thus far.  They were first routed on the 17th by the Suns, 121-100. Then, on the 20th, they won a close one against the Timberwolves (By a score of 140-136). The Mavericks are favored in this game by 5.5 points.  The line for them is -230.

Both Off to Slow Starts

Zach LaVine has performed well for the Bulls in the first two games of the season.  He scored 30 points during their first game against the 76ers. He also pulled down 5 rebounds and got 3 assists.  Bobby Portis was second in scoring in that game, scoring 20 points.  He also got his first double-double in the first game of the season with his 11 rebounds.

In the second game, LaVine scored 33 points for the Bulls.  Justin Holiday was 6-8 from the field, including 2-3 from 3-point range, en route to being 2nd in scoring.  He also had 6 rebounds and 3 assists in that game. Ryan Arcidiacono led the Bulls in assists with 7, despite playing less than 20 minutes.

For the Mavericks, the scoring was more spread out in their first game, with 6 players scoring in double digits.  Dwight Powell led them in scoring off of the bench, scoring 16, and also got 5 rebounds.  DeAndre Jordan had a double-double.

Head to Head

On paper, this looks like it should be a good game.  Both teams have a pretty solid lineup and at least one good contributor off of the bench.  They both have explosive young scorers. The Mavericks have Luka Doncic, who can shoot from anywhere on the floor, and the Bulls have Zach LaVine, who scores in many different ways.  He can shoot from long range, he can post up, and he has an explosive first step that often gets him to the rim.  He should be a big factor if he can get to the free throw line a lot. Doncic should affect the game in a big way as well, as he will test the Bulls’ perimeter defense.

Bulls Down Dallas

The Bulls may have lost both of their games, but they were in their last game the whole time.  They looked very good on the offensive side of the ball. If they can shore up their defense, they should be able to cover the 5.5 point spread.  Bet on the Chicago Bulls +5.5.
