Colorado Rockies (33-34)
After a strong start to the year, the Rockies have crashed back down to earth. They have a -38-run differential, and despite all of the home runs they have been hitting, they have been piling up the losses and quickly fading away from contention in the NL West. They have only one starting pitcher with a sub-4.00 ERA, which has completely hurt their chances of winning most nights. Wade Davis has recorded twenty saves in his twenty-eight appearances, but again, there is a lot of work to be done.
They will be sending Chad Bettis to the mound for his fourteenth start of the season. He has posted a 4-1 record with a 4.40 ERA and 53 strikeouts over 75 2/3 innings so far this season. He struggled in his last outing, allowing five runs on five hits over four innings while striking out six.
Texas Rangers (27-43)
Injuries, poor batting average, and many strikeouts. This has been the recipe for disaster for the Texas Rangers and their offense. Joey Gallo has struck out 99 times in 68 games and is batting just .199. Catcher Robinson Chirinos has 79 strikeouts in 168 at bats. The team has struck out 160 more times than their opponents and have a batting average that is 43 points lower than their opponents for the season. Not having Elvis Andrus or Adrian Beltre have certainly not helped matters.
Usually a reliever, Yohander Mendez will be making his first start of 2018 for the Rangers. He has just one previous appearance this year, in which he allowed just one hit in 2/3 of an inning. He is 0-1 in 16 innings of work over 10 relief appearances over the past three years. This will be a big chance for him.
Rockies win, start to bounce back
This will be a win for the Rockies tonight, as they are listed as -117 favorites tonight. Their offense, which has thrived with use of the long ball, will get plenty of chances to go yard tonight.
