Indianapolis Colts at Philadelphia Eagles Betting Preview

The Indianapolis Colts and Philadelphia Eagles are set to square off Thursday Night in preseason action. This is the final preseason game for both teams. The Colts are 1-1 in preseason play, coming into the game fresh off a win over the Bears. For the Eagles, they are 0-1-1.

The Eagles and Browns played to an 18-18 tie last week. The Indianapolis Colts come into this game as the favorite. The Colts are -4.5, and the total sits at 38 points.

Philadelphia Looking to Continue to Dominate

There is no question the Philadelphia Eagles were one of the best teams in the National Football League a season ago. The Eagles ran into a tough-and-driven Kansas City team that kept them from their ultimate goal. The goal remains the same for Coach Siriani and the Eagles in 2023.

Jalen Hurts is getting early discussion for the Most Valuable Player award this season. A year ago, the former Alabama signal caller finished the season with 3,701 passing yards and an additional 706 rushing yards. His 13 touchdowns on the ground let the team, and he threw 22 of them, with six interceptions.

Gone is Miles Sanders, the leading rusher of a season ago. In comes D’Andre Swift. Swift came from Detroit, where he was used in various packages for the Lions. Rashaad Penny is the backup, with Kenneth Gainwell in the mix. The Eagles with that trio are in pretty good shape. Philadelphia also boasts a solid receiving core of AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Quez Watkins. Watkins is questionable for Week 1 with a hamstring injury.

Colts Distractions a Plenty

If the Indianapolis Colts wanted a slow, drama-free training camp – they certainly did not get their wish. The distractions have been early and often, starting with Jonathan Taylor holding out, becoming injured, and now demanding a trade. Also, the Colts chose to go with a rookie quarterback to start the season. Anthony Richardson, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 draft, will get Week 1 against the Jaguars.

Indianapolis was an absolute mess a season ago, with Matt Ryan under center. Ryan played 12 games, while Sam Ehlinger and Nick Foles played the rest of the time. Ryan finished with 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Richardson will look to keep the offense on the field and avoid the big turnover. He will get the nod over veteran Gardner Minshew and also Ehlinger.

With the loss of Jonathan Taylor, who rushed for 861 yards in 11 games a season ago, and Zack Moss being questionable with injury, it appears Deon Jackson and Evan Hull will get the opportunity to run the football. So far in the summer, Ehlinger has been the best rusher for the Colts with 70 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown. During preseason play, the Colts competed on the road at the Bills but lost 23-19. Then in Week 2, the Colts trailed but rallied to come from behind and beat the Bears 24-21.

Eagles Win at Home

It is hard to imagine that the Philadelphia Eagles cannot beat the Indianapolis Colts, whether it is a preseason game or not. Whether the biggest stars for the teams play or not. Philadelphia is better than Indianapolis in every facet of the game. The Eagles being an underdog at home seems wrong in this one.

That leads us to the bet of the Philadelphia Eagles moneyline. They are +170 on the moneyline, and that’s what we like here. Bet the Eagles over the Colts on Thursday night in the final preseason game for both teams.
