Week 9 Thursday Night Football: Oakland Raiders at San Francisco 49ers

This game is not very appealing to most, and is likely going to be struggling to compete with NBA coverage. The tight ends for each side, Jared Cook and George Kittle, are leading the squads in receiving, but both are now without their top RB, as Marshawn Lynch is sidelined indefinitely with a groin injury. Either way, the key matchup will be between the tight ends.

We see the 49ers listed as three-point favorites at the outset, but expect a lot of scoring in this game, despite all the injuries. The 49ers are -3 in this game.

Raiders Off to Slow Gruden Start

Off to a 1-6 beginning and trading both Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper show that things are not off to a promising start in the Jon Gruden era. Derek Carr has been as competitive as he has been able to be, throwing for 2,027 yards, 10 TD’s, and 8 INT’s. Marshawn Lynch had been starting to run the ball effectively, but a groin injury has likely ended his season and quite possibly his career. So the muscle hamster, Doug Martin, takes over as the top back.

Jordy Nelson leads all “receivers” with 337 yards, but he has been highly ineffective this season. This team lacks playmakers, and that has been apparent. Oakland has only seven sacks in seven games without Khalil Mack, as pass rush has been a major issue. Gruden has clearly not gotten everybody to buy in, and now the team is in prime time. They have not won since beating the Browns 45-42.

49ers Coming Off Divisional Loss

At 1-7, this is not the year San Fran expected. Garoppolo was supposed to lead them to a great campaign, but things did not work out, and he tore his ACL early on. They lost RB Jerick McKinnon to the same injury before the year even began. Matt Breida has been efficient thankfully, as has CJ Beathard. He’s got 1,252 yards and 8 TD’s, but has also tossed 7 INT’s. George Kittle has been effective with a team-high 584 yards and two touchdowns, but nobody else has even 300 yards yet. The offense has not been good enough, and the O-Line has surrendered 31 sacks, an even bigger yikes.

They’ve got 16 sacks, an average of two a game, a decent number for them. DeForest Buckner has 4.5 sacks so far to lead them. With only two interceptions and three fumbles recovered, however, they rank dead last in turnover ratio. This has to get better for them, as things have really not gone like we have expected them too. They just loss to a 1-win Cardinals team, and hope to avoid doing the same against Oakland, in the last time they will meet with Oakland as a non-Vegas team.

49ers win their second game in the California finale.

Yep, we’re putting San Fran down as the winner, no doubt about it. Oakland struggles in more areas, and Carr will struggle in this game.

Well done CJ Beathard, your first win as starter this season!
