San Jose State Spartans at USC Trojans Betting Preview
It’s opening week of the College Football season, and the San Jose State Spartans will look to pull off a massive early season upset on the road at the USC Trojans. The Spartans come into the season following their trip to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl a season ago. Brent Brennan led the Spartans to a 7-5 record but fell in that game to Eastern Michigan.
For Lincoln Riley and his Trojans, they have big expectations for the 2023 season. The Trojans are ranked 6th in both the Associated Press and Coaches Poll. USC comes into this game as massive favorites. The Trojans are -30.5 in this home game, with the total listed at 66.5.
Spartans Looking to Build
A season ago, the Spartans were pleased with their season. The Spartans finished in second place within the West Division of the Mountain West Conference. San Jose State started the season 4-1 with a loss at Auburn in front of 83,000 fans that ended up as a one possession game. The other losses also came on the road at Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State.

His final numbers saw him throw for 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns. Williams threw just five interceptions all season. He played nearly all season, with his backup just getting 14 attempts in.
Travis Dye, the top running back for the Trojans is gone, and now a member of the National Football League. That leaves the running game to Austin Jones and Darwin Barlow. Those two guys combined for nearly 1,000 yards on the ground and 8 touchdowns a season ago. Jordan Addison is gone, as he is with the Vikings. He was the top receiving threat of a season ago. Mario Williams returns. The 5’9 junior from Tampa will team up with former Arizona star Dorian Singer to connect as Williams top targets.
USC Rolls Spartans
The USC Trojans know they are going to have to win games, and look good doing so. The SEC and the Big Ten are the leagues that most are looking at, and projecting to get to the National Title. This is the final season for the Trojans in the Pac-12, and they would love to go out with a bang. Look for USC to have their foot on the gas in this game. Last year, they scored 66 points in their season opener against Rice.
Look for them to fall under that number, but still score points in bunches. The Trojans win this game, and cover. The final score prediction is USC 59-21 over the Spartans of San Jose State.
